First off I would just like to say that I am incredibly happy and jealous of my best friend Ashley who is currently traveling in Thailand. Incredibly happy for her because she is one of the greatest people ever and she deserves to be having the time of her life traveling the beautiful beaches of Thailand. Incredibly jealous of her because I want to be traveling the beautiful beaches of Thailand. I know, I know, I'm in Korea....but its no Thailand. I do still love it here, and it beats living in Edmonton, but everything seems so normal now. I want something new and exciting and have everything around me be, well...new. I try and get out and do some exploring on the weekends, but during the week my life is pretty normal. I work 9-5, I have dinner, I go for a walk, go for coffee...I dont know, just normal stuff. I want to wake up really early in the morning, or whenever I want, go hike up a mountain and have a picnic. Get lost and find new and interesting things. Decide I want to go somewhere else for 2 weeks and just go. Just do anything I want
and just explore.
Man, how am I ever going to be able to do that?! Three months in one place and I already want to go somewhere different and new. I am going to visit Ashley in Thailand for Christmas, which I am so excited for, so I guess those 10 days will have to hold me over until my contract finishes in July. Other than feeling antsy and wanting to travel somewhere else, I am still loving Korea. The people here are great, the country is great, I have had an amazing time here so far and I know it will only get better. I feel pretty lucky that I'm here though. If I wasnt here I dont know what I'd be doing. Probably working in Edmonton waitressing and barely paying off my debt. Instead I'm here having a great time, experiencing a small part of the world I wouldnt have if I stayed in Edmonton. I'm able to pay off my debt much quicker as well which will be a huge weight off my shoulders once its paid off. After thats done, who knows what I'll do. Move back to Canada and do what normal people do.
Floors 3 and 5
Its unlucky to have a 4th floor Get married, get a house and have kids...in no particular order, or keep traveling? Who knows what life will bring.
Alright, so now that my little life reflection is done....,I bring to you the past couple of weeks of my life. A few Saturdays ago we had an art exhibition day at the school. This is a day where the students (or more correctly, the teachers) got to show off the hard artwork they've been doing for the past few weeks to the parents. We also had a few more activities going on throughout the day the parents could do with their kids. One was cooking class and I was the teacher. It didnt actually go too bad. The first class was probably the worst because I was told what I would be doing approximately 4 minutes before I had to do it with the parents and kids. Ya, that was fun. I'm getting better and better at just winging it because it seems as though alot of things in Korea are last minute. After the parents day was all finished, all us teachers went out for some lunch and then I was off to Seoul to meet up
with some climbers.
I had directions of where to go so I found it relatively ok, but by the time I got there it was pretty dark so no one was climbing anymore. We all went to this girls house and had a rooftop BBQ. It was great. I met loads of people and just had a really good time. The next morning a few of us decided to go to a bouldering gym in Seoul. Everyone was really good. One of the girls, Heidi, has been climbing for about 5 years. She helps teach rock climbing to beginners so she was helping me out a bit and picking out some projects for me. After talking to a few people it became pretty evident that alot of people didnt actually start climbing until they came to Korea. I think its a mix of just living in a different place so you try new things and actually having the time and money to do it. I know those are my reasons.
After that I had to head back to Suwon for my first Korean lesson. Ok, so how much fun can a Korean lesson be? Actually, pretty fun. We
made dinner, we drank beer, and we even did some Korean. The guy who is teaching me is a really great guy and we get along great, so it was really fun. I even learned how to say "Hello, how are you? What is your name? My name is Kimberly. Nice to meet you." Haha, I was saying it all week to the teachers and students. The students thought it was hilarious when I would say it to them. They would first get this surprised look on their face and then they would just burst out laughing. They also thought it was fun to try and teach me new words. My pronunciation is awful, so they would laugh and laugh when I would say something. Its pretty cute they think its so funny.
Wednesday was Halloween. All the kids dressed up in the morning and we had a little fashion show in the gym. It was so adorable! Unfortunately though I didnt take very many pictures as I was the designated pumpkin carver so I didnt have much of a chance. The kids thought making a jack-o-lantern was pretty cool but some of them didnt want to touch the
pumpkin 'guts'.
Thursday we got to go on a field trip. We went to this park in Bucheon that has minature versions of famous landmarks. We saw the Eiffel tower, Sydney Opera House, pyramids, Statue of Liberty and so much more. It was really neat and some of the pictures turned out really good.
Friday night alot of the foreigners around Youngtong decided to have a halloween party. My friend Veronica and I decided to dress up as Korean dancing girls. If you havent been to Korea I dont know if you can appreciate this costume idea as much as everyone else. Anyways, what it is is when a new store opens, or a store has a promotion on there is usually one or 2 Korean girls outside the store in some sort of getup singing and dancing under a balloon arch. I thought our costumes were pretty good for last minute. Especially the balloon arch. I looked for a black wig to complete the Korean look, but no luck so I had to do without. About 25 of us did a mini apartment crawl. Kind of like a pub crawl, but instead of going to different bars,
you go to different apartments and have a drink there. Anyways, mine was one of the four apartments we went to. I've never had so many people in my tiny apartment before. We were like sardines all cramped in here. It was fun though. After that we just went to Now bar and had a great time.
K, I think thats about it for now. No plans as of so far for next weekend. Oh! I might have to cat-sit for a while. A friend of mine is moving and he has a cat so he may need someone to look after him for a bit. The fact that I'm allergic to cats doesnt bug me one bit. I might get to have a pet for a week! How exciting!
K, hope everyone is doing well! Love you!
