Holga
The new $20 toy... Here we are again... taking this kitten for the ride of her life... or was that just a dream?
I'm sure you've all been waiting for me to spit more irrelevant dribble... so here it goes.
I last left you with a repulsive photo of myself slipping the tongue into a fish... this one will be cleaner, I hope. Since then there has been many a night out, many a weekend away and many an event worth splattering some virtual ink for. Enjoy.
Firstly... I purchased the toy camera known as the "Holga 120N," a beast by any standards... it is entirely made of plastic, bearly able to focus on anything, full of light leaks and ready for horrible photos to emerge. A few of these are able to be viewed in my
DPC Profile. This has been a great joy for me, I've really enjoyed snapping away with it and even produced a few shots worth looking at. Unfortunately, as I've not been able to scan the film in colour, yet, the entire lot are black and white so far. Anyhow, on to other events.
Scott Walker, Scott Astbury (colleague), Paul, Fiona and myself partook in another
Holga-ism
An example shot from the new beast... adventure across Korea recently. This time involving the eledged 'most beatiful place in Korea,' Seoraksan. Departing hungover but happy on Saturday morning we boarded the bus and made our way to the destination. We stopped briefly on the way for nutritional benefit but as I said... hungover. I could bearly stomach the saliva I was swallowing and they fed us hot and spicy Korean stuff... dude... Apon our arrival we made our way up the side of the mountain, and I do not exaggerate to say that it was vertical... we took stairs the whole way up. On the way we encountered some heavy wind and snow, many refer to this as a 'snow storm.' However, we finally reached the top and despite the claims of the Koreans of being able to see all over Korea, including some of the most beautiful scenery around, we couldn't see ****. Low and behold... the wind kicked up even more, blowing the clouds away and for sure we saw some awe-inspiring sights! It was almost painful to see the beauty of clouds clearing and the landscape unveiling before our eyes... indescribable, you have to see it. Following this we decended, singing Justin Timberlake's

From the top new co-single "Dick in a box." This was a song Scott Walker had been singing all day and we all got it stuck in our heads.
After we made it down we had a quick beer and headed for the accomodation, a motel with public baths!!!! We then proceded to a restraunt for tea and ate our fill. People were getting very drunk so we decided to leave, of course procuring drinks along the way. Being me... I couldn't help but buy the bottle of grog with the penis shaped cup on top... which became the feature of our evening, attracting crowds of many to 'drink from the cock.' After this, Mr. Astbury brought in his deck of cards in began the lads night in... we played blackjack for many hours... I lost all of my $2... Mr. A cleaned up (he was the only one not drinking :P and also the dealer, no excuses tho... we sucked). This night continued in similar fashion until the entire tour was sent to their bedrooms as the owner wanted to sleep... there Scott W. told us a few 'bedtime' stories and we all packed in for the evening.
The morning

From the bottom involved a stroll to some waterfalls and then back to the same restaurant for lunch. Then we headed for the hot springs again, savouring the final moments and talking to random people from the trip. Good times to had for all.
The following week was graduation for our kindergarten(!!!) kids. As to how you graduate from kindergarten is a mystery to me... but we made a spectacle of it and enjoyed a few performances from our kids that we had worked so hard on. After this work payed for an evening at TGI Fridays, my first steak in a long time. I never really enjoyed them that much, but it was kind of nostalgic. Nicky (my Boss) commented that she'd never seen me drink so slowly... hehe. I was drinking wine, a drink to be savoured and tasted, rather than the Korean wallop which is useful only for shotting and cleaning sinks... My kids made me very proud this day and there's some photos below that show this. Their English ability has improved so much and they really enjoy using it around me, this is more satisfaction than I could have ever asked for!
I went for a
Seorak
At the top bit of an urban shoot with Fi the following weekend, which was great. I took some photos I liked and really enjoyed the experience of sharing the knowledge I'd gained. One thing that's great about being a teacher is being able to share the knowledge you've gained, but another, far greater is to be taught by your students. In Wonderland I've learned this, and in photography, although I have my own way of doing things, Fiona has an entirely different way and this teaches me much about sticking to one style.
And now for something completely different... I believe in the last blog I mentioned that Fiona dropped the lens I gave her, completely breaking off the mount. As payment for this I was allowed to deconstruct it!!!! A passion of mine has always been digging into stuff to discover how it works and whilst pulling this one apart I was completely euphoric! Photos are contained.
I've also managed to meet a few new people and catch up with a Japanese guy, Mako, who we studied with in level 2 at Korea university (2005). This was pretty cool.
I also purchased a new flash for my camera
Wicked...
Tea in the restaurant online last week from a Korean company. However, there was no response from the company, phone or email. Their website also offered no confirmation. This we took as fraud and called the banks involved and the police... hehe. I also went out on the weekend with Fiona and she lent me the money to buy yet another flash... Today, despite all of this a flash arrived in the mail and I now have quite a team of flashes... hehe. Ooops...
Anyhow, on this parting note I will go and have something to eat.
Take care faithful readers.
Love you all!
Dylan.
