Sands Sky Park Leisure pool 288 metres up
8 Feb 11. Not much sleep so was up dealing with e mail at 4 am. Eventually slept through till 9am. Today was meant to be a trip aboard a junk around Sentosa Island but we ended up at the harbour and guess what – there was only an ocean cruiser and cable car! So it was back aboard the very easy and efficient MRT (their Underground) and off to the Sky Sands Hotel at Marina Bay. This building, you know the one with the three towers and a boat on top, was only completed 12 months ago. After a tip off from an American couple we met at Raffles, we entered Tower 1 and bribed a concierge to give us a pass card giving us access to get to the 57th floor by elevator which took about 10 seconds to reach it. What we discovered was amazing. The ‘boat’ is in fact a leisure complex for all three hotels with infinity pools, cafe/bar, Jacuzzis and all related services with just simply the most amazing vista of Singapore as you can see from the pictures. Underneath and around are more cafes and restaurants as well as shops with equally amazing names

and prices. What struck us most was how busy the food and drink outlets were while the shops were practically empty and not because it was lunch. The prices of some of the goods were astronomical.
From there we strolled around to Marina Esplanade and the vistas again were simply breathtaking. . I expect we shall take a bus ride down to join in the spectacle. Came back via the Fullerton Hotel and the Merlion Statue (half lion and half fish, two other famous Singapore landmarks. Managed a happy hour drink before going up the room for a nap. Of course it is Chinese New Year 2011 is the year of the island so we took a bus down to Chinatown and walked around for a short while but there are only so many restaurants, cafes and hawkers you can handle so back to the hotel for a nightcap and packed up for tomorrow. Bus system is equally efficient and cheap $1 each way for senior citizens (about 50p). Tomorrow we will take the tube and cable car to Sentosa for the half day and then take a taxi to the airport to begin the next leg of the holiday
