Looking at the hits on my blog, it appears that the most viewed is the one on how I got my US visa. So from now on whenever I'd visit another country that requires a visa I'd write the process as my way of helping fellow Filipino travelers out there.
You know how after getting back from travelling you're eager to escape again as soon as possible? Well that's what happened to me. I just got back from travelling in the US and Canada and was so pumped up I started looking for another country to visit. And I heard all these news about how easy it is now to get a five year multiple entry visa to Japan. I felt confident that I'd be granted a multiple entry visa since I already have used multiple entry visa for the States and Canada.
I did a lot of research but I'm only gonna tell you about what worked.
First, visit the website of the Japan embassy to download the forms that you need. Just Google search Embassy of Japan in the Philippines to find their website. You will also find all the requirements there. As for me I
submitted my birth certificate, ITR, bank certificate, itinerary (there's a form for this in the embassy website), 2x2 ID picture with white background, letter explaining why I wan't a multiple entry visa, and my passport. That's it! Easy enough to get all those in less than a week. I did not have to submit a marriage certificate since I am single, and I don't know anyone in Japan so no need for invitation, etc.
Next is to find an agency to submit your requirements to. The Japanese embassy does not accept walk in applicants. So you have to submit your application to their accredited agencies. The cheapest one I found was Discovery Tours. You can find their address and working hours below. I only paid 800 Pesos. After paying thousands of Pesos for my US and Canada visa this was a relief! I went to their office in Makati and submitted my requirements there. Visa processing time is only five days, including the day you submit your requirements.
However, I was not successful in getting a multiple entry visa. I wonder why? Perhaps I did not have enough money in my bank account. I only had a little
over P100,000 in my account when I applied for the visa. I thought that was sufficient so I did not submit my stock certificates and because that's not listed as one of the requirements. I was not willing to cash out my stocks as I thought 100K was enough! Clearly not! So in case I decide to go to Japan again, I'd have to apply for a visa. I hope they'd give me a multiple entry visa by then.
