When people speak of Maria Cristina Falls, it always equates to Iligan City, as it is the seat of power in Mindanao - that is, Hydroelectric Power. But when we say Iligan City, does it equate only to Maria Cristina Falls? NO. Iligan is an 81,337-hectare highly urbanized city which was chartered on June 16, 1950 and became a lone district in October 20, 2009. Iligan City is blessed with 23 waterfalls, the most famous of which is the Maria Cristina Falls located inside the National Power Corporation’s Agus VI & VII Hydroelectric Power Plant Complex. A nature’s park was developed in the compound to give tourist more activities to do like the 4-span zipline that crosses the Agus River and gives a good view of the area and the falls. I was tummy sick the whole night at the stinky Palace hotel in Oroquieta, it did not help that we have several beers before turning in for the night. Rik and I are sharing a matrimonial bed as it is the cheapest choice, 550 pesos!! They gave us one blanket and one towel, Rik came to ask the front desk for another blanket and was told to pay 30 pesos for the privilege, ticked off I stormed down the front desk and mouthed off saying the bed is matrimonial and one person could barely fit in the provided blanket for the price of the room we expect better service, he mumbled something and gave me one more blanket, for free I took it and left quickly. Drank as much water before heading off to the port ... read more

There are 2 bus terminals in Cagayan de Oro and if I wanted to go to Iligan I have to get to Bulua terminal, jeepneys heading to "Patag" in the corner of Jollibee is where I waited, I hesitated at first taking jeepney as I have a big backpack and don't want to be an inconvenience to the other passengers, but they actually help me pull the pack all the way in and it's cheap, only 15 pesos I think. We made it there and found a deluxe bus to Pagadian stopping in Iligan, I saw an a/c bus but I know it's more expensive and you can't open the windows, 85 pesos to Iligan, bargain! It was a sunny day and we followed the coastline it got cloudy when we approached Iligan but quickly turned ... read more

Iligan City is a two and a half hours drive from Opol, Misamis Oriental. We left Opol at 1pm and arrived at Iligan City at around 3:30pm. Upon reaching Iligan, we proceeded directly to Maria Cristina Falls as it was our destination in the first place. After visiting the Iligan City Hall, we didnt have much time to roam around the City of Iligan because of limited time as we had to go back to Opol that same day. "Maria Cristina Falls is a waterfall in Mindanao Island (Lanao del Norte) and a landmark of Iligan City, also known as the City of Majestic Waterfalls. It is located 8.5 kilometers away southwest of the city proper. Well-known for its natural beauty and grandeur, the 320 feet high waterfalls is also the primary source of power ... read more
