Fortunately Super Typhoon Paolo, packing 240 km/hr and gusts reaching 296 km/hr veered away from the Philippines towards Japan and we were able to board the overnight Ferry to return from Romblon to Batangas. As the storm was approaching we got heavy rain that flooded some streets and wind that destroyed bridges in islands south from us. Luckily on the day of our departure from
"The Three P" Dive Resort in Romblon, Philippines the storm started to turn away and we had a fairly smooth 8 hr overnight ride. Just in the middle of the crossing it got a little bumpy but and I heard a few people waking up but later I heard that the bumps mid way are quite normal.
The ferry gets cancelled only in extreme weather conditions so hearing that it was "just" delayed a couple of hours was actually good news. Schedules in the region are subject to weather reason why we didn't have a tight flight plan. Boarding was smooth as we now sort of know the system: There are no signs or times for destinations or companies, make the line and hopefully you are in the right one to the right boat. In our case
that wasn't an issue because there was only one boat at that time so that had to be it. But coming from Manila there were a few so we just trusted the driver to take us to the right one. Pay about 35PHP per person to enter the port, 25 PHP per bag and you ticket fee (Booked by the resort), the other small fees I recommend you to have small money at hand. Grab a porter to take your luggage to the ship. We gave them about 100PHP per porter (about 50PHP per bag -Med size and about 50kg each) and porters seemed to be happy. Although we don't know exactly what is an usual tip.
There are different options of tickets if you want to travel real cheap go into the group room with a bunch of bunks and shared bathrooms and rent pillows and sheets for extra cost. The resort organized for us a private cabin with a double size bed that was quite nice and clean, with private bathroom, AirCon and TV. No internet. The price for the private cabin was about 3240PHP about US$63 per person each way plus about US$17 each way for
the 2 hr transfer from Manila and to Batangas port. If you like to book your own cabin here is the link to do so
https://travel.2go.com.ph/eticket/search.asp but honestly save the hassle and book it through the resort.
http://the-three-p.com They organized pick up-drop at our hotel with all the transfers in between for a fair price.
Now we are trying to relax in Ermita, a very busy touristic area in Manila. We plan to overnight here and reorganize before we start the 2nd leg of this trip. The hotel has good internet so I am taking advantage of it and catching up with my blog.
