After spending Maundy Thursday at a resort in Olongapo, the family and several cousins headed to the small fishing village of Pundaquit in Zambales on Good Friday 2009. Typical of a Filipino Holy weekend, hordes of city dwellers have trooped the beach (which can be reached via pump boat), making it a little too crowded. But take a few steps away from the crowd and it's hiking in the woods that seem to have popped out of a fairy tale book. Worth the Long Drive Left Manila at 10:30PM. Arrived Candelaria, Zambales at 4:30AM. 5 hours drive to the gateway of the virgin island of Potipot. It's well worth the long drive. Dawal Beach Resort is our jump off point to Potipot Island. The island's white sand, clear waters and overall serene atmoshere reminded me of what Boracay and Pagudpod used to be- unexploited. A few huts, though, are sponsored by a telecom company which gives a hint that this beautiful island will soon be commercialized. 10 Things I did on Labor Day 08: (1) Enjoyed the long drive from Manila to Candelaria, Zambales.
