Anawangin Cove
A man walks a lonely stretch of the beach at Anawangin, a few kilometers off Pundaquit village in northern Luzon. After spending Maundy Thursday at a resort in Olongapo, the family and several cousins headed to the small fishing village of Pundaquit in Zambales on Good Friday 2009. Typical of a Filipino Holy weekend, hordes of city dwellers have trooped the beach (which can be reached via pump boat), making it a little too crowded. But take a few steps away from the crowd and it's hiking in the woods that seem to have popped out of a fairy tale book. Or a few more pesos for another boat ride and you're off to relatively more secluded islands for swimming and hill-climbing. That is, if you can bear the summer heat.
