Finally ...

October 15, 2008 Wednesday 5 p.m. At American gate A7, Philadelphia Airport.

Hassle at check in because we have 22 hours layover at Delhi and no transit visa. Will take all of 22 hours to get our baggage and then get it on flight to Kathmandu. But the ticket agent was amazingly helpful and got us through. And Bruce and I were amazingly patient.

October 17, 2008 Friday 7:55 a.m. Hong Kong

We’re at the Hong Kong Airport waiting for flight to Delhi. Lots of long hours but nice people on flights. Hong Kong Airport is very pleasant, cool and air conditioned. I tried to get a later flight to Delhi, but they only have one a day. I’ve read all of Atkinson’s Case History and passed it on to a seat mate who is on a 2 week Asia tour.

October 18, 2008 Saturday 6 a.m. Delhi

Awake at Delhi Airport; have been here almost 18 hours so far. Still don’t have baggage or a boarding pass but have been told (yesterday when we were met after disembarking) that they would bring us boarding passes and new baggage tags this morning. Our flight out is about 12 noon.

Transit Lounge in Delhi
Airport has been much better than rumored online. Air conditioned and clean. We’ve been in the transit lounge (a waiting area which has rest rooms, fairly comfortable semi-reclining chairs and 2 snack shops) the entire time.
