So it was finally time to leave Kathmandu, and boy I couldn't wait to breate some fresh air! I finally checked out of the Fuiji hoel, I was only meant to stay 2 nights and I ended up staying 5! The day began early, as I was packed onto a tourist bus that left at 7am. The bus takes the route from Kathmandu to Pokhara and the guide assured me tha the non-English speaking bus driver would know exactly where to dump me on the stretch of road! I didn't feel confident, where was this group that I was supposed to be rafting with!
Anyway, much to my surprise, after a funfilled, fist clenching 4 hour drive, the driver beckoned me and spat me onto the road with my huge 20kg backpack. A Nepalise guy found me on the road and led me to a little shack where there were two German guys and a women from Hungary waiting. No hello, no information, just a point in a corner. You get used to going with the flow- and this is coming from me! Anyway, a hot 30 minute wait in the sun later, a Chinese couple arrived and we descended
a steep rocky path to a beach.
So the raft leader. He was grumpy. He was serious. But worse, I barely understood a word he was saying and I was entrusting my life in his hands... eeek! He started to explain the instructions. I didn't hear much. I heard "fourrwarrd" which meant we started paddling. I understood "sstopppp" and I understood "faaassster". Aside from that, I did not understand a word this man said! Happy days. I kicked myself for thinking that rafting was for me. The Trishuli river, with the rapids whooshing past didn't exactly seem to be a beginners introduction to rafting. Anyway, we got on... the guy shouted loudly "FORWAARRD" and everyone started rafting, paddles were clanking and then cam "STTOPPP". Everyone stopped. Within 30 seconds of leaving the shore, we were thrown into a huge rapid and was soaking wet - it was brilliant!! I loved it, I wanted more rapids, I wanted to go faster :-)
Yeah, so I wasn' expecting to love it, but I did. When we weren't warring with the rapids, we were gently floating down the river and really enjoying the hungle like magnificen scenery. Apart from being splashed
by the guide every 15 minutes and oh, the friendly Germans kept trying to knock me into the river... clearly they were impressed with my yogic balance as nothing was going to throw me off that raft - nothing human anyway!

After an hour, we stopped off on he gorgeous white sandy beach for lunch! OMG- having only every been to the beach in Europe, this was my first expericence of a real white sandy beach (not counting Bombay)! I was so excited, the sand was white and so so fine and it looked like a child had spilt lots of tubes of silver gliter everywhere. It shone like it was in a disney film. Apperently the glitter was some kind of mineral, it was o pretty though.
There were children on the litle beach, most of them completely naked and completely young. I couldn't help giving them half my lunch as I couldn't stand that they were watching. I loved that beach! But before long, we were rafting down the river again. I even meditated a little as we floated (before someone splashed me awake), it was really peaceful and I wished that all my loved ones
and friends could also be there to enjoy it with me.
Soon the rafting ended and I was dropped off at my hotel for the night. The Damila Resort, a hotel 100 km outside of Kathmandu. I was hoping for a hot shower and a clean room. What I wasn't expecting was the Damila o be gorgeous! It's set into a mountain, opposite the river and I had my own little hut with a chair outside and a gorgeous view! Happy days :-)
Sadly there was no hot shower (I'm getting used to cold showers now) but I had a great lunch of mutter paneer with roti and let the chill set in.
The only bad part of my day was a message from the trek company that my Annapurna Circuit had been delayed by a day! Determined not to let anything get me down, I accpeted the fact and thought that another day in the middle hills in the Damila with my great view, wasn't so bad :-))
