NEPAL After traveling around south east Asia for six months the intensity of the countries start to waver and what was fascinating soon becomes normal. I do not regret a single penny or wish I had done something differently, each country has a unique trait that you can love.
Nepal is by far the best destination yet. From a mental city of Kathmandu to lake side heavens in Pokhara. I wish we had more time to explore this country but we need to leave some thing for our return visit. Dal Baht power every 3 hour gave me a terrific diet boost and I see why the locals love this twice a day every day, it makes you take on the world with ease.
Getting about from the airport is a bit of a pain with crazy traffic making a short distance difficult, always try and write down the name of your hotel, the address and the phone number to save you trying to show 123 taxi drivers where you need to go with out the fear of some one lifting your ipad and running with it. This is just our programmed thoughts scaring us though,
although the place is like stepping back in time the people wouldn't dare consider doing such a thing. The Nepalese peeps are the most truthful and caring people we have came across. After a few night at our hotel we were invited to the managers birthday celebration and we joined his family and friends to celebrate his special day with some lovely cake and smiles. We loved this as since we have been away away from friends and family for so long it was nice to be part of something as a group.
Kathmandu is expensive if you are looking for decent digs and could skin you up to £40 as a starting price for something reasonable. My advice would be to rough it up cheaply for a couple of nights and have your onward bus booked for Hotel Point in Pokhara. here you can get the 5 star treatment at a great price from the man of the moment, Puspa. Here is the trip advisor entry I happily wrote for them:-http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g293891-d7103071-r264128757-Hotel_Point-Pokhara_Gandaki_Zone_Western_Region.html#CHECK_RATES_CONT
From Pokhara you can do everything and its a good base to unwind or wind up to chill out or tackle the Himalaya's. Ask Puspa for
anything you need and he will arrange it with ease and get you the best price, make sure you ask for Ganesh (the best guide in the Himalaya's) and enjoy a 4 day trek up PoonHill to see the most staggering views that will only be beaten by going further up the mountains.
It has been a horrific disaster the people of Nepal have endured in recent weeks with the earth quakes destroying Kathmandu and taking so many lifes in its way.
If you can help out in any way. The people of Nepal deserve your help as they are the most generous people we have came across.
Please help if you can.
