The 3th day of our wedding, there was a big party (for about 700 people) in the evening. But in the morning, we were also busy: there was another program at Gyanendra's, to introduce Zoe to his family. First there was a small program (Lakha Mata) with the priest. The priest was blessing us for a healthy and succesfull long term relationship. Besides that, 125000 candle-threats were blessed. Those were made by Gyanendra's mother, to burn in this special day. After this, all Gyanendra's family members came for another nut ceremony (like there was in the 2nd day for Zoe's family). One by one they greated us, gave some money and received the nuts. When everybody had done this, we could start another parade to the temple. The candle-threats were carried, a music band was joining us and we walked to Brahmani-temple. There was another puja, followed by burning the candle-threats in 5 different boxes, all around the temple. We had to touch them with a special stick. After this, we had a nice picknick (eating Samya Baji, the typical Newari food), prepared by Gyanendra's family in the early morning. We went home soon, to do some more preparations, and the
others came back in a parade, dancing again.
Around 5pm, the main party started at the party palace. We were sitting in the stage to welcome all the people. Many of them brought gifts (mostly pieces of cloth to make clothes), an egg for blessing, puja-items and curd (yoghurt). We had to do puja (worshipping by throwing rice, flowers, curd,...) for all the guests and most of them blessed us by giving some curd in our forehead. This is a habit that is very common in Bhaktapur, were the curd is very famous (and very tasty). Good to be blessed, but quite a lot of curd in our face at the end of the evening... For a long time, we were sitting there, and in the same time, we saw people enjoying themselves. The dance floor was very full and everybody seemed to be happy. A very big difference with a wedding as we know it in Europe, is that people start dancing in the beginning of the evening (the music had to be stopped at 9pm), so from the start, there was a real party-atmosphere. After a while, we came down and talked and took many pictures with all
the guests. The dance floor was really filled with all kinds of people: young, old, male, female, Nepali and European. Nice to see how everybody enjoyed together! In the same time, snacks and drinks were served, and people could go inside (the main party area and dancefloor were outside) for food whenever they liked. In the end (around 9pm), we also enjoyed dancing a bit, and the whole family, even Gyanendra's sisters and sister-in-law joined us! All our European guests went to the city centre (where were their hotels) by one bus. We said them goodbye, and found out that they continued the party on the bus: singing, joking,...
This was the end of our 3-days wedding program. We enjoyed it very much and we thank all our guests for being there and making it so unforgettable!
