Being back in UB was great because we could have a shower and wash the dust from our eyebrowws. In the gobi we had stopped twice at small towns to go to the poulic baths where most of the townspeople were having showers. But shortly afterwards you were hot and dusty again,. The air is so dry out there too. I wa disappointed to hear that mongolian bbq isnt actually from mongolia but is an import from Kazakhstan. It's ubiquitous in UB tho so we tried some. The meat is mostly mutton. In fact most of the traditional fare is mutton-lamb cooked with hot stones with carrot and potato (like our stew but tastier), mutton dumplings, and dough stuffed with mutton. Yes there is no getting away from it-veggies beware. We did have some camel meat in the gobi, tho not marmot which they apparently cook with hot stones from the inside (sounds horrible.)
