Start to our morning walk
What a wonderfully relaxing break. Had a very quiet day yesterday, familiarising ourselves with the island, going to an orientation for the island waters, tides, currents, being fitted out with all the snorkelling gear. Returned home to give our gear a try out in front of our bungalow on the reef as Sunday Desmond is off and we are heading over the other side of the island for a couple of hours of snorkelling. In afternoon had a nap, swim, G&Ts by the pool, nibbles at Desmond's place before heading out to dinner at the Benjarong Thai Restaurant, and had a magnificent feast there. Had another fun filled day at the Dusit, the chief engineer took us for a "back of house tour", which was absolutely amazing to learn how they survive on this island for power, water, garbage, quarters and facilities for the 200 staff. They have a huge power room with their generators, their own water bottling room, both still and sparkling, people sort all the garbage, crush what they can, food is composted, cardboard etc is incinerated, the laundry is totally run on steam power - of course John was right into it - he was suitably impressed.

This is it!
A barge brings in supplies every Tuesday, so there are huge refrigerators and freezers that store everything - also out the back of the main restaurant they have their own vege garden with lots of interesting and yummy things growing. The staff are very well catered for too - their own sports complex, bar, internet cafe, staff canteen which has a great selection of meals and shop to buy any extra things they need. Desmond has a huge job here as GM, it is an absolute credit to him. But boy we are definitely the paupers here!! Loads of very rich Chinese, a middle eastern prince currently staying here and some famous Thai model and her husband who is a famous actor - the Thai staff are all oohing and aahing! Doesn't mean much to us. Being our 34th wedding anniversary Desmond had us over to his bungalow for dinner - which was another great night of fun, laughter and stories with an Indian Banquet, enough food for 8-12 people- the food was just fantastic John's favourite butter chicken, tandoori prawns, beef curry, chicken curry, breads and chapatis and topped off with a gorgeous strawberry cheesecake - so waddled home
