It's our last day in Malaysia today and I've had a really good time here. Lots of people told us that the country was dirty and not that great but I really like it. Not really sure what I expected but it's competely different to what I imagined, its really green and quite cosmopolitan. We've been staying in Chinatown which is quite hectic and busy (but then again, I think after India no where will seem quite so busy again!) It's where most of the backpackers stay and is really close to everything. We're staying in a place called Wheelers Guesthouse which was recommended to us by someone we met in the Cameron Highlands. Its not the poshest of places but the people there are really helpful and friendly and there's loads of backpackers there. Plus its right next to Petaling Street where we have discovered many bargains! Today I bought a Gucci Leather Handbag for 50 Ringett (about 8 pounds!) and the other day I bought a Gucci purse for 25 Ringett (about 4 pounds!). As well as the market, at KLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Centre) there is the most amazing shopping centre - about 5 floors full of designer
shops, posh coffee shops, and shoe shops! We discovered it when we tried to go up the Twin Towers but they were shut so we spent about 4 hours walking around the centre! I bought a few bits and we had tea and cakes and this coffee shop (all the weight I lost in Thailand is coming back on after all the cakes we've been eating since we got here!)
Also, I have conjuctivitus (typical, I never have any problems with my eyes and now that I come travelling..!) After a few days of having my eyes stuck together everytime I woke up I thought I should go to the docs. I thought it was going to be a complete hassle but it was really quick and easy! I went to the clinic where the doctor saw me straight away and confirmed that yes, I did have conjuctivitus! He gave me some drops for it and said it should clear up in a few days (which it has done, phew!) Also, the place where we claim for insurance was the next block along so I went and claimed my 60 Ringett (for both the consultation and drops) back straight
away!
Then the next day we got up early and went to the Petronas Twin Towers where they told you all about them and then we went up to the 40 something floor (it took a second a floor to go up in the lift!) where we could see across the whole of Kuala Lumpur. And it was free! Then we got the bus and skytrain (the public transport here is really good - cheap and easy to use) to the Lake Gardens. They were nice but there was no one there so it felt a bit eary so we didn't spend too long there. Plus we walked over some grass that was completely soaking wet - like marsh land and our feet started sinking like quick sand so we made a run for it after that! Then we went to Little India to look at the jewellry, then to Chinatown to look at the bags!
Today we chilled out a bit as we were still exhausted from walking around yesterday. We got up early though and got the bus to the Bacu Caves. They are caves, obviously, with a temple inside. They were pretty cool and also
there were loads of monkeys there which were so human like! I was taking pictures of one and I think I invaded his space too much, he started running towards me, I thought he was going to attack me!
They've got all the familiar brands here - even found a Marks and Spencers - we got quite excited and thought we might find some nice food (that Patrice has been craving!) but they only had a few pre-packaged stuff like biscuits. Also we've eaten at Nando's twice (I know its bad but they don't seem to have any cheap local restaurants here and on the Hawker Stalls they leave food out so were not sure we can trust it) but we do trust Nando's!!! Also they've got Starbucks everywhere, Topshop and obviously McDonalds!
Booked our bus to Singapore tomorrow for 30 Ringett (about 5 pounds) so leave at 8.45am.
I've added loads more pics on previous entries. Still loads more to upload too which I'll hopefully do in the next few days so keep a look out!
