Greeting all from winter in Melbourne, thankfully its only about 20 degrees at the mo durin the day so not totally cold. But more about that in the next blog this one is just up until we arrived.
So I left off with the fact that we was just about to go and get onto a night train to head off into Malaysia, the first class sleeper turned up at about 2am and we was off was pretty posh a train basically full of bunk bed pods, looked good and was a pretty comfortable bed, awoke the next morning and we had arrived at the border crossin station into Malaysia, another easy crossing and my first by train. Continued down to Butterworth wer we luckily had a bus to leave for our next destination, Lumut so straight onto this and off we set. Arrived into Lumut lookd like a nice area but we went straight to the ferry port and booked our tickets for 10ringit return from Palau Pangkor and on we got. Arrived in palau pangkor town, be aware that it stops at another place before this port. Got a minibus 12r to Telak Nipah and got ourselves a place
at I fink Nipah bay was a nice room, basic bunkbeds and a fan for 30r a night between us. Went out for a sunset dinner just along from the main part of the beach round the corner is a quiet more beautiful beach, had fish and chips. Sunset was pretty nice then back we went and crashed out.
Next morning we headed to the quiet beach and decided to swim out to an island about 0.5miles from the shore, so had a 20min swim out to the island sadly the visibility in the water wasn’t great so wasn the best conditions for snorkelling. Got out to the island a beautiful little island with a jungle and rocks on either side of the sandy beach went for a little exploring climbing over the rocks then me and Dan decided to go for a snorkel I attempted to get out the more extremem way straight through the rocks and crashing waves, after a couple of smashes against the rocks I made it through, and did see a few fish getting smashed about aswell which was cool. Dan in his better judgement decided not to follow me out. Went for a swim
but still the visibility was not good so decided to get back to shore a more interesting way by goin through the boulder further down. Felt a bit like a seal attempting this cos as the waves pounded Against the boulders I use my seal beaching technique of jumping against the rock and being thrown up by the waves, unfortunately the wave didn’t throw me far enough at first so I came toppling back down onto the rocks below the surface, oops. Finally made it onto the rocks and scrambled along a bit till I need to then jump down into a little pool and was nearly at the part back to the beach, so timed by slide perfectly with the waves and landed safely onto the rocks, that was until I realised I slit my hand open on the side of sum shells, luckily the continued bleeding made the slash look worse than it was so gave it a wash in the water and climbed back over the rocks to the beach. A very interesting part to my day. Back on the beach the bleeding stopped so me and Dan then decided to swim back over to the main
land the vis was a bit better on the way back and sadly my bleeding didn’t attract any sharks, that would have been cool.
Back on the main land we walked down past the main part of the beach for all the malaysian families which seemed to congregate along a 100m stretch of a 400m beach, which left loads of empty areas for ma and Dan to enjoy another amazing sunset. Went back into town and all the restaurants line up all there amazing fresh fish, so we went for a whole stingray and bluefin tuna, was bbq and tasted amazing Dan even said it was as good as hs amazing chicken in Luang Prabang (so it must have been good) and it bloody was. Went back to our place and watched the second half of the FA cup final then off to sleep.
Next day Dan chilled on the beach again and I went for a walk around, walked about 3ks to another beach which was totally quiet and as I was walking along a I discovered they had mudskippers on the beach, so watch them for a while scooting about and swimmin in the waves, they are cool
little things. Carried on my walk found a hermit crab and more mudskippers just sat about for a while then headed back to the other beach and chilled there with dan for a while. Went for another sunset and ate fresh seafood once again this time I had a whole red snapper to myself and Dan had squid, both once again amazing.
So the final day consiosted of more of the same just chilling out and burnin on the beach which me and Dan have both achieved, also Dan went for another swim to the island while I did sum sowing (yes sowing of sum badges I bought to my bag. I am living the dream.) I looked up and saw a boat was about to crash into Dan as he was swimming back but luckily they actually polanned to stop rite by him, it was full of tourist who stopped to wave to him and take photos of him, I guess its not every day u get a scuba Mong swimming from an island and he obliged with a few waves back. To my amusement on the shore.
Also later on the beach saw a few hornbills a cool
looking bird and also a macaque was chilling out on the beach. Watched another great sunset and off for fresh fish again.
So the next day we left beautiful Palau Pangkor back to the main land and got a bus down to Kuala Lumpur and bck into Wheelers guesthouse. Went for duck and rice at our original place and then the internet for a while.
Then the day had arrived mine and Dans final full day in Asia, started the day by goin to the post office and then for a walk around the central market which we only discovered today and I was less than a 2min walk from our hostel after we headed in for McDonalds lunch menu and chicken burger meal for only 5r 1pound bargain I will miss Asia prices. Then we headed off to Times square a massive shopping centre with its own rollercoaster with a loop inside. Walked around and ended up buyin a alptop for only 300quid back home is worth about 650. Bargain, then we went to watch the terminator movie in the premiere VIP suit in the cinema, you go through into a VIP lounge and then into a cinema with a screen about the size of back home but it had only 40 seats in sets of 2 which were recliners and basicially armchairs, and all this for a whopping 12r or in england 2.40 if only ster did that for there 6 quid tickets. Then we went trainer shopping dan got a pair of converse styleis for only 3quid and we headed back to our place to dump our stuff I went and bought a pair of snadidas for only 9quid in the china town market they are so white compared to wat I fort was my white socks. Headed out for an indian and then back we went for our final night. Turned on my new laptop and discovered that the power cable did not work this was gonna be an interesting final morning now. But none the less a good final day.
So the next morning had to get up early and arranged to meet the owner of the shop 1hr before the shop opened so arrived and luckily it was an easy fix and the bloke was very helpful indeed, so off we headed to KL Central and got the air asia bus to the station, had Maccy Ds and checked in. Then onto the 6hr flight and off we went flying out of an amazing 5months for me and 2months for Dan in SE Asia ready for the next part of our great adventure. Oz.
