Petronas Towers
The Towers at Night, an amazing site We arrived in KL after spending some 30+ hours of travelling, from Ko Pagnan via coach to Surrantani, then a train thru the Malaysian Boarder, then a bus into KL. Quite simply
the worst journey ever. We even celebrated Mikeys Birthday during a 5 hour wait for the train in Surrantani. It really was draining by the time we got thru customs in Malaysia and hit KL we were knacked and in desperate
need of a feed, aswell as a bed!
When it came to finding somewhere to stay the girls ended up in one place that we decided against. We ended up about 5 mins away from them in China town, at a hostel that was a converted cinema, this was to be
our home for the next 5 days. The girls ended up joining us as we had a 5 bedroom room, and lets face it they wanted to be with us 24/7 for some reason!?
Our little room had no windows to the outside world and turned us in almost nocturnal animals, as we were waking up seriously late in the day after our exploits of the previous night.
The main reason for me wanting to
Petronas Towers
Petronas Towers viewed from the KL Tower go to KL was for the Petronas Towers, when you arrive into the city the first building you see are the imposing towers on the skyline, with the KL Sky Tower not too far away from them.
The Petronas towers are meters tall, and are joined to each other by a skywalk, these Towers and skywalk were used in film Entrapment starring Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta Jones. The first impressions of these
buildings are just how stunning they are, at night they become even more amazing. The tips of the towers glow, and the buildings metallic look is amazing. Standing at the bottom of these towers really does bring home what we are doing
on this trip and how lucky we are to see and experience sights like these. I could spend hours just looking at these towers.
The actual skywalk is free although limited to only 1000 people a day, demand is high. I had to get there early to get our tickets, and we still had to wait for the time that was displayed on our tickets. The tour was very informative explaining the design concepts and construction of the towers. You even get to ride in
The Night Train
The seats fold out to create bed at night what is probably the fastest lift in the world.
50m,100m 150m. In the time youve read that weve reached the top 150m up!! The views from here are very impressive, we also went to the KL Tower in the evening which gave impressive night views and a different perspective of the Petronas Towers as the KL Tower is almost has high as them.
Shopping in KL was very good with a great selection of huge malls selling at cheap prices compared to the UK. One of the mall claim to fame is it has the worlds biggest Borders bookshop, more interesting to me
was that is housed a themepark inside the mall complete with a looping roller coaster!! Yes I did say a looping roller coaster in a mall! Of course we went for a ride on it, it was very strange to see this inside a mall but still it was good fun.
Chinatown was just round the corner from us, and this was were all the markets were selling the really cheap rip off clothing. You name it and it was here and at the cheapest prices so far on our trip, yes even cheaper than
Mikeys Birthday
Mikeys Birthday on the train platform Thailand. Although if you have big feet like Kev and Mikey, you will be disappointed as no matter how many stallholders there were they could not
find any that fitted them. The food in Chinatown was very good and definitely recommended, sit on the busy street soaking up the atmosphere with good food a beer and you wonder if life gets better?
Of course we visited KL Hardrock Cafe, on our way to doing 3 hardrocks in 3 countries in 7 days.
KL was also a sad place, where it was time to finally say goodbye to our danish friends Amalie and Josie. It was a sad morning waving goodbye to them as they set off on there way to Bali before going home to Bacon Land. Our regular banter about Lego,Bacon etc will be sorely missed.
Girls you have added so much more to our Asian experience, and given us good time that wil simply never be forgotten you are true legends, and we hope to see you in the future wherever you maybe, you will be missed.
So to sum up KL it was my favourite city so far, the buildings, shopping areas, people and food
was great, The city had such a good vibe about it, and definite a must visit destination!
