Hello Everyone.
This is just a quick update of our adventures so far as we are leaving Kuala Lumpur tomorrow to go to a rain forest for three days.
On Monday we went to a sea food restaurant to celebrate Mark and Charlie's birthdays this is the type of place where point and ask them to cook it or to put it another we all stood there with our mouths open and Mark ordered some of these some of them we did not know what they were but one things for sure King Prawns are ugly looking things they look a little bit like a spine. They were at least 10 inches long and no there were no jokes about it. When it arrived the table was filled with crab, clams, shell fish, huge king prawns, rice and Oysters surprisingly enough Owen tried everything and he quite enjoyed it as he had only tried the rice and Prawns before.
After a night of beers and celebration we got up the next morning with bad heads and proceeded to rush to get to the bus station to get to Kuala Lumpur, we managed to get a luxury bus
Petronas Towers in daylight
The pic cannot describe how tall the towers are for a the pricey sum of four pounds and the seats were like thrones / big lazy boy type things only problem for Charlie was the air con was set at Antarctica temperature and when we got to KL 4 hrs later Charlie had icicles hanging of his nose. Owen did not notice anything of this as he slept all the way there AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!
Once we got there we decided to go for a trek around the city which is quite fantastic at night the Petronas Towers are breathtaking, we wandered around and decided to go up the communication towers as it was Charlie's birthday. However we discovered that you have to book a seat there a month in advance, so at Charlie's request we went to the Hard Rock café which really wasn’t that different. Owen was being good and decided to have a small burger and chips but because Charlie was celebrating his birthday he had the 10oz monster burger with everything on it. It did look like a heart attack in a bun. We finished off the evening having a few bevies and games of pool around some of the bars near the Petronas Towers.
Charlie and Owen on the Skybridge
We are 170m above ground level with nothing below us The next day we decided to do the touristy things such as going up the Petronas towers unlike the communication tower you cannot go all the way up you can only go about one third of the way up to the sky bridge which links the two towers together. However you are still 44 floors up (170M) above ground level where you can see a great deal of the city and mountains behind. We also went up the communication tower which is also known as the KL tower this time we went up 276M this is the fourth tallest tower in the world so as you can all imagine Owen was slightly nervous. From the observation point on the tower is a magnificent view of the city. This is the only place either of us has been to where there is a forest/jungle in the middle of the city.
We wandered round in the afternoon looking at the National history museum which was a whole 30p and we spent 3 very interesting hours in there. We learnt a lot about the Malaysian history we did not know half the things about the country and the people. Outside the Museum
What a nice view
This is a view over Kuala Lumur smallest park there is the world tallest flag pole which is about 100m. We got lost on the way back to the hostel (this is not our fault as KL has the worst road signs i.e. we stood at a junction about a kilometer away from the Petronas towers and you can see them in front of you but the sign was pointing the other way to get there. By the time the got back to the hostel we had been walking almost 9 hours straight and covered most of the city on foot. We were so tired we were almost crawling through the front door. If I keep following Charlie like this I will need to get a new belt as in such a short time I have had to cut two new holes in my belt just to stop my trousers falling over my hips.
On our way back we found the tourism centre which is a converted mansion which has been used by the British Army and as the headquarters for the Japanese during WWII. It was also the venue for the first sitting of Malaysia parliament and installation ceremonies for several kings of the country (they current
have 9 Sultans in Malaysia). So it has not all been picture taking, beers and food we have learnt something too we did not type this out of a book.
The next day we spent most of our time looking at mosques, landmarks and temples KL is mainly comprised of these. We also visited the National museum which is not to be mistaken for the National history museum. Again we pent a lot of time wandering around there as it talked about the many religions, tribes and cultures that have shaped KL over the years. In Malaysia the main car that is driven is a Proton which looks like a boxy version of Ford Mondeo and they do not drive to the same standard as us, meaning they close their eyes while turning around corners and across traffic hoping they make it. (The only reason I mention this is they have a Proton in the museum). I don't know how we have not been in an accident or witness one considering this. We also went to the National Monument which is very similar to the one in America dedicated to the war veterans.
We had our first proper
KL Tower
Really it is that tall boys night out last night with a Canadian guy called Mike who we met at the hostel who has been traveling for over 2 years and gave us lots of info on Thailand so we are more confident on what to do and what not to do. Enough said. The night life is really good but very expensive the clubs are very different from the UK as every girl tries to grab a white man. We got back this morning at 5am and realized we had forgotten to book another night at the hostel and woke up late this morning having 10 minutes to get up shower change, pack and find another hostel. We really should of though that bit through. However the beer got the better of us but we found about 50m away so all was good again.
We are heading for the national park tomorrow which is the world's oldest rainforest 130 million years old where we will be staying in huts, traveling on miniature long boats and walking around the jungle. Life is so hard we so wish we were
Back at work NOT!!!!!!!!
See you all soon Charlie and Owen.
