Kecil is also known as “Small Island” (as opposed to Big Island - Pulau Perhentian Besut) and we opted to stay here because of the gorgeous white sand beaches and coral and the cheaper accommodations. The speed boat ride took 30 minutes from Kuala Besut and then we stepped off onto the pier at Coral Bay. We walked down the beach to Senja Bay Resort and registered for an a-frame cabin -very simple and basic but had all we needed and was right on the beach! -for 50 RM (Malaysian Ringgits -about $17.) You can check out their web site at: www.senjabay.com

Kecil is truly a piece of paradise! The beach is glorious and the coral is just right there -just had to swim a few strokes from shore with our snorkels and masks and we could see beautiful coral and colourful fishes. We took a full day snorkel trip with 5 others -all from France - and had fun with them and our excellent boat guide, a guy who grew up on the Perhentian Islands. We had 5 different stops including one at Shark Point where we saw black tipped reef sharks; our guide assured us they are harmless. We also saw some amazing coral of all types -and amazing and colourful fishes. We even found Nemo, the clown fish, in amongst the anemone. I said Hi from you Elwyn! 😊

There were a variety of beach restaurants as well as our own restaurant at Senja Bay so we ate well -and drank little as most places were Muslim so no alcohol served. Mango shakes instead! Yum!

We said good bye to Senja Bay and Kecil on Wednesday May 7th and headed off to Jerteh on the 4 pm ferry. Like so many places we have been privileged to visit, we could have definitely enjoyed a longer stay! But now we are heading back to the west coast of Malaysia and Pulau Penang!

Hey Logs
I know - Al is definitely more tanned than me - he uses much less sunscreen (!!!) and is darker than he has ever been in his life- and of course looks gorgeous! Malaysia was amazing -and there is so much we missed...the challenge is always fitting in as much as possible! We will have to share photos when we are back together! And thanks for the advice on the night bus- we are staying attached to our stuff as much as possible! Take care! Love Mum
