A Kelong trip was in the making for quite some time and we finally did it! We set off early Sunday morning in a group of 9 across the causeway into our neighbours land for a short break away from our work. Isaac, Kelvin, Ivy, LH, GM, Pauline, HW, Jace and myself made the trip. Traffic was light and we had breakfast at a coffeeshop. I had black sause wanton noodles which I thought was tasty. I must have been hungry.

Our first stop was the Go-Kart Track at Plentong. The former Permas Jaya track had shifted into a plantation and we crossed our fingers that the driver would not complain of the 3.5km undulating terrain into the plantation. Lucky for us he did not. This was my first Go-Karting experience and it was fun with the 80 cc fun kart which was fast enough for most of us except Kelvin who took a second dig with the 160 cc kart. Experienced the turns and skids negotiating the bends and hairpins and had some minor collisions with Kelvin and GM. Spun out of control 360 style twice I think ..Wheeeeeee

Next stop was Paintball at Octville Golf Country Club.

We arrived early but waited long to start. The setting was of a flat field with blown up airbags used for cover. The name of the game was speedball which basically involved quick elimination of the opposing team from the go. Got pelted pretty bad in the first 2 rounds with zero kills. Attributed it to my forward advancing style, poor gun and team mates who didn't move forward together. Boooo. Well, LH held up pretty well as the last man standing in my team for the 2 rounds. 3rd round went slightly better but got killed by Jace : ( There was a brief scare when Ivy experienced a bout of giddiness but thank goodness she recovered for the rest of the trip. Isaac retired with a gaping hole in his pants. With 3v3 in the last game, I went on a rampage killing quite a few, flanked and killed LH and Pauline from the back. Woohoo ! Had some lucky hits on GM while he was running. Paintball really rocks! Rain came down as we left the place. Talk about some good timing. I had 2 bruises with some skin tear on my left arm and figured I will wear long sleeves the next time. It was fun nonetheless.

Had Char Kway Tiao for lunch before heading to Tanjung Leman jetty for our boat ride to the Kelong. Another first for me staying in a Kelong. Accomodation was a row of mattresses lined up side by side. Pauline certainly made herself at home with her own sheets and pillow case. Bathing went back to basics with the basic scoop and splash. Not the most convenient but worked fine with me.

Isaac gave us lesson 101 on fishing and we all caught fishes. We caught lots of Mucus and bait fish with the multi bait. The fishes we caught got bigger and contributed to our dailymeals. Never got hungry at the Kelong with all the food. Leftovers were used for "fowl fishing" another method of fishing involving the throwing of leftovers into the water and yanking a rod with a 3 prong hook. Also upgraded to using bait fish to catch bigger fish as we got better. My personal satisfaction was when I caught a "Saito" abt half a meter long. First "big fish" for me and it was a happy moment. Start to understand the satisfaction

tired but happy
of getting the catch and appreciate the art and science that goes into fishing. Never knew there were so many considerations just to catch different fishes. Fishing is also a peaceful and tranquil past time in a laid back environment. It makes a really good weekend getaway.

Other than fishing, we played board and card games of Bang, Acquire, Citadels, Bohnanza and even MJ and we had a fun time eating, fishing, talking, taking pictures, making fun of Pauline ...etc. Strong winds and heavy rain hit the Kelong on the last day just before our departure and we had to take cover for a short period of time. Our boat also broke down for a half hour on our way back but we were in good spirit and didn't delay us much.

An educating and enjoyable trip I must say. Will go back again someday. Thanks for the happy trip everyone !

Like the feel of this picture. Having tea at the Kelong with the Sea and the Trawlers as backdrop and wind blowing in the face. Nice.
