It's like a tuk tuk, but bigger
So far we haven't got up to too much in Laos. Yesterday we went and saw one of Vientianes famous monuments. Patuxai. Which translates to Gateway or Door of Victory. Which is a blatant rip off of Arch of Triumph. And the whole monument is just a cheap knock off of Paris' Arc de Triomphe. From there, we basically headed back to the hotel, stopping briefly at the morning market. One funny thing is that it started to pour out while we were walking back, so we ducked into a small restaurant. As soon as we got in the rain stopped, but we'd already ordered drinks. Then when we were done, and went back out, it started raining again.

So far, Laos reminds me of Thailand, in fact, I'm naming it Baby Thailand. Where Vietnam gave us excellent rooms for the price we paid, the rooms here are shit for the price we pay, just like in Thailand!! They also have minimarts here, something we never saw in Vietnam but did see in Thailand. So yeah, so far Laos reminds me of Thailand, except without the beaches. We're probably only going to be in Laos for just under two weeks and we're going to do it on a super budget so that we have enough money for diving and living in Thailand for the remainder of our trip. We'll probably head up to Vang Vieng tomorrow and see what that's all about. So yeah, all in all, not much to update about today.

Oh, and I'll really try to get some pictures up later. I have a backlog of pictureless entries.

Baby Thailand
Vientiane is not a good indication of Laos - I haven't heard of many people enjoying it much. For real Laos Plain of Jars and 4000 Islands are popular, Vang Vieng is a popular travellers hangout and Luang Prabang is nice. Enjoy! --D - Duncan McNaught

Well our stay in Laos is going to be very short. We're in Vang Vieng at the moment, but are then just heading back to Vientiane and then to Bangkok. We're trying to save money for diving in Thailand, so that doesn't give us much to do in Laos. It seems all there is to do is trek, or kayak, or stuff like that. And since we don't want to spend money that leaves us with not much to do. At least in Thailand you can just relax on the beach or go swimming if you're not doing anything.
