02.08.09 Since Vientiane does not really have too many things to do and see we kept heading North the next morning towards Vang Vieng. Vang Vieng has actually become quite a touristy place with loads of hostels and restaurants where they play chapters of Friends and Family Guy all day long. Already on the first evening, we sat down in a cosy little bar and enjoyed some Western food while watching Family guy and lolling on the massive pillows.
After that we ended up in a place called Qbar which seemed to be the „in“ place at the town. After way too much Laos Tiger Whiskey we changed location to a small island in town and spent the night with some funny Italians until 5am in the morning.
03.08.09 Unfortunately, the tiger whiskey was not really friendly to our stomachs, so the next day started a lot later than planned. I also didn’t realize that some mosquitoes got quite active the night before and decided to bite me millions of times on my legs. I think I must be allergic to mosquito bites, because they were swollen and really hot the next day, so I could hardly walk and
was in a lot of pain. So again, the bars with their never ending Friends chapters were perfect for my condition and I was quite happy about the fact that I have so much time during my traveling, so it doesn’t matter that I do not do anything during some days!
04.08.09 After the rather quite days before, we got up early that day and rented motorbikes to explore the area. We went to a cave just close to the centre and decided that it was a good idea to go and visit it. Two young boys (not older than 7 or 8) climbed with us up the mountain from where we could enter the cave. Of course it was pitch black in there and we were thankful for the torches of the boys in order to see a bit better. It was also really slippery inside and sometimes very difficult to climb around. A cave like this in Germany would have had a huge sign in front of it saying: „Danger! Do not enter!“ I am sure! But hey... it was very exciting and a great challenge... and we all survived without any injuries!
Our treat after the
cave was a blue lagoon. Not too big, but the water was bright blue and after all the climbing it was great to relax for a while before we headed back into town.
In the afternoon we did the probably most famous attraction of Vang Vieng - the tubing in the river! We rented big rubber tubes and a tuk tuk brought us up the mountain to the starting point of our river journey. We just had to sit down in the tubes and went already downstream passing the beautiful karst mountains! The actual journey takes probably around 45 minutes, but of course there were many bars scattered around the banks so whenever we decided to stop in one bar, the people would just trough ropes into the water in order to pull us out of it. Among others, we stopped in one mud bar. I guess it does not need much explanation 😊 - a bar full of mud where one could get dirty and just play like children in the dirt! Many bars also had zip lines or other things from where we could jump into the water. It was a great afternoon/evening and I would really
love to do it again one day!!!
