I met up with a friend I know from St Andrews. Hélène is french but have been living in Japan for few years and in Kyoto for few month. We met at Demachiyanagi. It's a park at the tip of the island formed by a division of the river. The island is linked to the side of the river by a turtle bridge which makes for a great playground. I was a bit early, and she was a bit late so I had plenty of time to enjoy people watching at the site.
When she got here, we found a nice little café to have lunch. I ordered Omurice. It's a dish in which you can see some western influence. You get a thin omelette wrapping a generous amount of fried rice. Yummy.
It's always good to walk around with someone who knows the place. We walk pass the zoo and up along the old railway. This railway is very wide and was used to carry goods from the canal into the city. The rails are lined with cherry trees. Obviously! It's all about cherry tree at this time of the year. We walked up the small mountain at the
end of the rails and ended in a very small shrine. It was so quiet and peaceful here that we took a break to drink some water and eat some biscuits before walking back down.
At the end of the day we walked the Philosopher's Path (south to north). It was 6pm and almost dark, all the tourist had gone. We had the path for ourselves. At the level of Ginkaku-ji, we looked for a small bar to get a beer and some snacks. We had a really nice day, chatting while walking around. It's always good to catch up with old friends.
