We were up early today and took the train to Umeda trying to find Sunday mass - the church it turns out was torn down a few years ago- so, back to Daikokucho for breakfast with Ted and Nobu. We were invited to Ryu Kyu - Nobu's mothers Okinawan restaurant for dinner Sunday evening - Ted and Nobu wanted to bring a pumpkin pie (Nobu has been very excited about making pumpkin pie) so we were off to shop for some needed ingredients -
Shopping was fun and we were looking forward to an evening meeting Nobu's mom Keiko. Pumpkin pie in hand we set off for Izumi. Nothing prepared us, not even our loving son, for the meal we were about to partake!!
Keiko is a most delightful woman, bright, energetic and loving. She has created a warm, family friendly restaurant that is the pride of the neighborhood. Small Japanese style tables, and thankfully for our tired legs one western style. Immediately she brought drinks - frosty mugs of beer (root beer for me - I am still not recovered from the Sake we had with the dancing ladies) With a toast "Watashitachi ha kazoku" (We are family)
All lined up for Tako Yaki
I'll never understand the attraction - Little children love them - they look like timbits, but they are filled with octopus. our meal began.....
