So, I have been in Hirakata for four days now, just settling in to on campus living. So far I have been non-stop with adventure, my house mates here don't really seem to want to leave the building but I seem to only be here to sleep. Today they lift our 11 pm curfew so we will be staying out later. Last night we went to an Izakaya where everything cost 280 Yen, I had several glasses of beer which were about a liter each in size. In my first few days I have only learnt a few words, life "fun" and "bicycle". I can also say "more beer please, the cheapest beer". It may sound like I am wasting my time and drinking too much but going out is the best way to meet people ... read more

First of all, I figured I'd do an overview of the trip and then break it down by certain trips/pictures. I left JFK for a five and a half hour plane ride to Seattle, then 12 hours from Seattle to Kansai International Airport. I've never experienced the amount of anxiety or culture shock more than when I first arrived in Japan. I had to clear customs (people in the Kansai area don't speak a lot of English), pick up my ripped luggage from the baggage claim, and take out 2,000 yen from an ATM. I was fully aware of the exchange rate, but the first time you take out yen it feels like you're emptying your bank account and I was basically hyperventilating. Not only was I exhausted from jetlag, but I left everything and everyone ... read more

Wow...first two days have been a trip. Where to start...better at the beginning I guess. We left Katie's house in Indiana, PA at around 3 a.m., but we made it to PIT by about 4:30 a.m. Still, our flight got majorly delayed due to some nasty weather that was spanning Ohio all the way out to Maine. After that, we made it to Cincinnati only to be routed through Chicago. Our flight in Chicago though was on the completely opposite side of where we landed, and when we arrived we forgot to check in, so we were put at the back of the line while one of the stewardesses worked that out. Fortunately, the stewardess we had was a vetran of American Airlines, so she managed to not only check us in in record time, but ... read more

Not the most interesting journal entry of course- but I'm just very excited for my impending departure to Japan! This fall semester 2009- I will be studying abroad as an exchange student in Hirakata (Osaka prefecture), Japan. I have visited Japan previously, but I have never lived/stayed there for an extended period of time. I leave on August 31, exactly one week from now! =D I'm new to travel blog- so I may be updating this website as well. Uh, depends on my mood. A website seems a bit more lenient about picture uploading/customization. Anway, here is the link. Website Blog In addition- if you are interested, here is the link to my "blog" about my previous trip to Japan. This was back when I was a freshman in college =P 1st trip to Japan ... read more

When I arrive in Japan I will make sure I have duplicate entries here and on my blog at - My Kansai Gaidai Exchange Annnd if you wanna check out my normal silly life blog, try here and my directory here.

First of all, sorry about the major lack of updates. I really am bad about keeping up with these things. Secondly... I FOUND MY BRAVE FENCER MUSASHI MANGA. After many months of searching... and an enormous amount of Book-Offs... I found them. And I'm so happy now. Very, very happy. Anyways, today will mainly just consist of a bunch of random pictures from the many things I've done the last couple of weeks. Pretty much just my favorites. I took millions more, so when I get home, everyone can see all of them, but for now, it would take me about 2 days to upload them all, so I'll just do this. But to make up for it, I have a great story. Yesss. Today was a field trip to a Buddhist temple… uh… I forget ... read more
