Ca a ete ... read more

Day 17 We left early again for a relaxing day in Beppu which is famed in Japan for its natural hot springs, or Onsen as they are known over here. Before we were able to get out of the door in Yafuin Youth Hostel we were serenaded by the hostel owner, his wife and little girl with a rousing rendition of Country Roads, the name of their hostel. It was fantastic and sent us on our way with a smile, albeit laden down with all our luggage. Stepping off the train, Beppu looked much like any other Japanese city, untill you looked a little closer and saw plumes of steam rising from many of the buildings and grates in the street! Our first stop was to visit two of the local "hells", places where steaming ... read more

Hi all, I am planning to spend some time with family and friends soon. Today I went downtown to finalize preparation of my trip with some minor purchases. 10:00am I boarded the downtown-bound train from shikido station. Downtown 11:30am First thing I went to the post office to get some foreign currency. There was a very long queue there and I had to wait my turn peering through the window. My turn came at last, They had unfortunately run out of cash. So I took the few available there and moved off to the bus station for Park Place, the shopping center. In between I checked the Oita bank if they could be of any help to me... They had cash, but I did not have my passport with me which prompted them declining to serve ... read more

Wow, that was a long time wasn’t it! No I haven’t written anything in this blog for a while, and for fear of it being shut down all together I will update my progress in J Land as it stands. Well, in fact I will regale the tail of my trip to the world heritage sit of Beppu which is in Kyushu the Southern most Island of he four bigguns that make up Japan. Being the weekend of Ethan’s 25th and the Japans, so named “Founders day” which is basically like a national day and resulted in a certainly, strange feeling to the primarily coastal resort, holiday town of Beppu, we set off from Imabari via the Diamond ferry. I am not quite sure of the taxonomic value of items out here but the Diamond ferry ... read more

As I keep saying: it feels like I am travelling back up home cos I am now halfway through my holiday, and in fact after thinking about it a little more I realised, not only am I halfway through my summer holiday, I am also halfway through my stay in Japan, I have been here for 6 months now! In fact more than halfway, I'll probably end up coming back to Oz halfway through Feb next year so that I have a few weeks before uni starts back up again. Therefore I am on the downward slope home, it's a bit sad really, because my time has gone so fast already, as all good things do, but I do miss everyone and my beloved Australia (even when I say I fell in love with Okinawa, theres ... read more
