Anthony and I decided to join a fun group on meetup called The Tokyo Spontaneous Hangout and this has been the 2nd time we have decided to hang out with this group. For anyone that is not on meetup.com please join. I have used this site from Charlotte, NC to Japan and have met some great friends and participated in such awesome events. This meetup started at the Kirin Beer Museum, out for dinner, & then night out on the town in Yokohama.
Once again another weekend in Yokohama which is only about a 50 minute train ride for us which in Japan is nothing since the train system is so convenient and easy to use. The only problem we have had is getting on the express trains when we shouldn't which we did once again. We got to the train station a little late so we had to run to meet up with the group with another couple that was coming off the same train. Wasn't hard to figure out it was our group when you see about 50 people walking down the street.
We got to the Kirin Museum and one of the first interesting things we
seen was a stream of beer flowing in the wall!!!! Our kind of day! The tour was less than an hour through the museum where we got to see the tanks, taste the barley, listen to a guide that was in Japanese so didn't understand anything lol, taste samples, etc. I do have to say though that even though the tour was in Japanese others in our group explained everything to us that the guide was saying. The final stop of the tour was the cafeteria were we got 20 minutes to taste the beer so in 20 minutes we made sure to chug as much beer as we could!
After the tour was done we went to the restaurant that was part of the beer village where it was mostly BBQ style where you cook your own food in the grill in the middle of the table (Yakiniku). OMG we were in meat glory! The plate had beef, chicken, pork and more pork, cabbage, onions (so potent tasted it the whole night), carrots, Asian peppers, & cabbage. FYI that in Japan pork is the meat of choice. I seen a whole chicken at the Japanese grocery store that
was 25,000 yen which is about $22!! It was so nice to sit finally with the group and get to know everyone. We met people from Japan, Norway, Italy, UK, South Africa, and even met someone that lived in both NJ & Greensboro, NC (what a small world)!
After dinner we headed to the American beer pub called Antenna America in Yokohama. Along the way come to find out that you can drink on the streets of Japan just like Savannah! Well not sure if it is legal but after looking it up on the internet it is socially acceptable. Our event host, the great Allon, set up a mobile street bar from his backpack! We had the choices of chocolate & espresso vodka, tequila, South African version of Baileys, & regular vodka. Must recommend the South African version of Baileys, very smooth & tasty!! The bar almost reminded me of a bar that you can find in NoDa for any of you from Charlotte. The neighborhood is definitely spot that Anthony & I will hit up soon with little bars, restaurants, & jazz clubs.
Headed back to base even though it was only about 10:30pm Anthony and
I both fell asleep on the train (can't take us anywhere) and we both woke up as they were closing the doors of our stop! LOL Well not funny at the time but thank goodness we made the last train and got home safe and sound.
Well until next week when we have a tour scheduled with the base outdoor recreation which is called the Fertility Festival which is 21& over and the description says this is one not to miss so should be good!!!
