We arrived in Hakodate with no problem. Weather forecast said rain the next day. That night we decided to scout out the area, and were able to determine that we were close to all the sights necessary for our visit. Old Hexagonal fort shaped in a star formation, The morning fish market, and the tower. We also wanted to go up top the mountain but it was to dark.
We found a little out of the way sashimi mom and pop restaurant and ordered our favorite dishes while watching Sumo Wrestling on TV. We watched the chef finesse with the knife and deliver us the bouquet of freshness to our loving lips!!! MMMMMMMMMM Goood!!!!
We bowed our way out of the restaurant and headed back to the hotel. The wife wanted to eat Salt ramen noodles the next day and I would deliver!
Next day we woke up to down pours of rain with no letup. So, we dressed up and borrowed an umbrella and took the streetcar to the morning market. The smells defined the area, so we knew we had arrived! Pouring rain, we walked the beat and saw all sorts of fishy stuff we have
never seen before. The market was humming with activity and freshness abound. The water from the rain, pouring off the roofs added to the experience. After getting soaking wet, we headed in doors and came across a squid tank where you could fish for squid and have it cut up sushi style and yum, yum, eat while its still wiggling. I kid you not! Wiggling while you are eating. There was a line up to hook the guys. As the hook pierced the squid and it was pulled up, it squirts out water all around and sprays everyone. The hollering is like at a circus once the act hits it crescendo.
The wife came across these peaches. (See picture) We bought this one! It cost 6$ CDN. It better be good...... IT was!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Check out her hands compared to the peach.
We tried some fresh scallops since we recognized them. The wifes stomach continued to have hunger pains, so we elected to eat fresh crab. I decided to haggle with the fish guy since it was raining and people were dispersing. We were eating it right there so I succeeded in knocking off 500Y. When it arrived it, the
shell was sliced so you could access the crab meat in a timely manner.
Once finished , it started raining harder and since we were soaked , we licked our wet wounds and headed back to the hotel to dry off. The rain did not let up, but once dry we headed out again and decided to visit the fort. Wet Wet Wet. Limped into the Salt Ramen noodle place and ate some more food. Eat, Eat, Eat...
Next day it was off to Sapporo. We arrived in Sapporo to sunshine. Promptly hit the biggest electronic shop known to man kind> Yippppeeee for me, not so good for the wife...
Bought a new extended battery case for my phone. Checked out the camera prices and such.
Sapporo being the city it is, offers up less culture and more everyday life. After we arrived, we decided to walk towards another huge Ferris wheel that we could see from our hotel room. We figured that was where the action would be, and we were right. I saw all manner of people, Blond haired Japanese girls, guys with stylish women haircuts. Yech. Flaired pants etc....
For all you
guys who are looking for romance, I think the women out number the men 10 to 3. I am serious, we hop on or off subways, buses, into parks and we always see more women than men. Unless the men are the only ones working.
Today we hit the botanical gardens, shopping, eating. Our last night we went to a speciality crab place and gorged on Alaskan Crab. We had it sushi, boiled, and baked. Now we are full and packing up to head back. Three weeks went fast.
