Question: What types of music are popular in Japan?

A popular type of music in Japan is J-pop. J- pop is western influenced music in Japan. J- pop came from jazz music and became popular in the 1950's. The song that made J-pop popular is Eri Chiemi's "Tennessee Waltz" in 1951. It caused more country based music.

J-pop is much different than pop music. In j pop, there seems to be more single sex groups than in pop music. Also, J-pop's songs are also more cheerful. They seem to sing about other topics besides love. J- pop is more interesting than pop music.
