On monday there was another trip put on by the council this time to a sea gypsy village, the American bomber plane that is now a popular dive sight then back to the waterfall in Wakai again. The trip was supposed to leave at around nine, in the end Pudin had to go find the boat about ten thirty and show it the way to the hostel we eventually left around eleven. Unfortunately it was the worlds slowest boat and it took four hours to get to the gypsy village. The gypsy villages has been around for two thousand years and there were so many children there who all wanted photos! A few of the girls had yellow faces which we found out was to make there skin white. So many girls just want white skin its amazing, they believe white skin reflects been rich. The path around the village was pretty scary just uneven wooden planks that you can't possibly convince yourself they are stable as they are so obviously not and some of them are so narrow you are literally walking on one plank of wood above the sea held together by thin rope. All of the villages that
i have visited, the number of children under seven seem to greatly out number the rest of the population altogether and how they know who is who and belongs to who amazes me. Before setting off back we ate our packed lunch of rice on the boat, as it had taken so long to get there even the out rigger canoes passed us we didn't have time for the bomber plane or waterfall. As it took so long on the boat the trip had to be changed but we did stop off at a reef on the way back and jumped off the boat to cool down, it was such a hot day, so nice and refreshing. Jumping off the boat then climbing back up using the windows and doing it all again was so much fun and i started to feel like a kid again. Then it was time for the long trip back to the hostel. We didn't arrive back until well after eight.
Arriving back I went into the kitchen and as it was Louises birthday, Teteng had spent the day making her a birthday cake and had added a message to it. But the message
said 'Happy Birthday Joyce' I laughed so much but Teteng bless her didn't realise in the end after I managed to tell her her mistake she was able to take off the writing and correct it before everyone saw it. Teteng, her mum and myself then dressed Pudin up like a girl, makeup, dress the lot (he happily laid on the bed for us to do it and posed in the mirror but then told everyone we forced him!) Then he delivered the birthday cake to Louise and everyone sang Happy Birthday. Then it was off to relax in the hammock where I decided to leave for Ampana the next day, Teteng would come to Ampana then I would go to Palu with Louise and Phil for a flight to Makassar. It was going to be a very hard day.
