2nd Stop Gili Trawangan (Gili T) May 8th-12th Quick intro to Gili T thanks to Wikipedia " Measuring 3 km long and 2 km wide, it has a population of around 700. Of the Gilis, Trawangan has the most tourist facilities; the pub Tîr na Nôg claims that Trawangan is the smallest island in the world with an Irish pub. On Gili Trawangan (as well as the other two Gilis), there are no motorized vehicles not even real roads, only soft sandy paths. The main means of transportation are bicycles (rented by locals to tourists) and
cidomo (a small horsedrawn carriage). For traveling to and from each of the Gilis, locals usually use motorized boats and speedboats. The economy of Gili Trawangan centres on tourism, as the island is too small to support any broad scale agriculture, and too remote to allow economically viable industry or commerce."
I knew I would like the island when we arrived by boat and walked to our bungalow then fell asleep on the padded chaise lounge on the beach. Great way to start our stay on Gili T. It was so peaceful due to no car horns or sounds from
motorcycles/gas powered scooters..walk, bike or horse carriage.
Activities: •
Snorkelingon a glass bottom boat around Gili T, Gili Meno and Gili Air. It was one of the best snorkeling trips I have ever done and have snorked Key West, FL; Maui, HI; Nha Trang, Vietnam and now the Gili Islands off of Lombok. We saw 4 giant sea turtles, lots of varieties of fish and the bluest water I have EVER seen. While in the water you could see the sun rays beaming through the deep blue water, these memories we will have for a lifetime. (we don't have an underwater camera so no photos, we asked some people to email us their best pics but nothing has been received yet)

Sunset watching...see our blog
Stunning Sunset •
Walked around the entire island in 90 minutes..got to see bamboo huts to $300 USD a night resorts. The development on the island is mind blowing and a couple we met at our hotel said they were there 2 years prior and it looks like a different island, not sure how long it will stay small and cute.
•
Relaxing on the beach and poolside for many hours during our
4.5 days/4 nights on Gili T.
Food: •
Gili T Night Marketopens daily at 7pm and has a wide selection of local cuisine and fresh catch of the day. We both ate dinner and had fresh squeezed juice for $6.50 TOTAL for 3 of our 4 nights on the island. Another bonus of the night market stalls, there is no tax as all the restaurants have 15-20%!t(MISSING)ax on food due to everything being brought to the island by boats from Lombok & Bali.

Horizontal Bar they have an amazing special on pizza for 29,000 rupiahs/$3.15USD which were delicious and happy hour special of 2 for 1 cocktails which turned out to be 4 for the price of 1 as they forgot to charge us for our 2nd round. They were quite busy so I figured they messed up, our benefit.
Stayed: Bale Sampan Bungalows ($70USD per night)..there are 10 seperate bungalows and the staff is amazing, especially Marianna. The staff called us by name from day 1 and were very accomodating and hospitable, even the room cleaners.
"I like to call the 3 Gili's (Trawangan, Meno & Air) PARADISE & probably my most favorite place we have traveled in Asia for the amazing people, cost and relaxation" - Elyse
*Get there by public ferry 4-6 hrs from Padang Bai, Bali or 90 minutes by speed boat. We took Son Marlin Fastboat at the cost of 800,000 rupiahs/$86 USD for a roundtrip ticket per person. Well worth it on a large boat as the waves can get quick big...thanks to motion sickness pills I didn't get ill at all.
