Where in the world do I even begin...
I'm going to go back in time for a little bit, back to our last days in Australia because I forgot to tell you all about my new favorite animals. They are called Quokkas and they are beyond fantastic. They inhabit an Island call Rottnest (terrible name huh). Apparently they are nocturnal but you would never know since they are out and about during the day eating leaves, trying to eat your food, and wanting to get to know you. If they get scared they roll up into a ball (I was never able to witness this though).
They are very curious creatures. They are tiny, have a pouch like a kangaroo, and even look a little like a Kangaroo but they have a tail like a rat. I know, they probably sound disgusting but they are too cute. I've got pictures to prove it =)
And now onto Bali...
We arrived in the Denpasar Airport on Tuesday night, the 7th of October. It was raining, lightening and thundering but we could care less. The air was warm and humid and the rain felt nice. Our first night we stayed
at Sayung Maha Mertha Hotel but decided that it was a little too far from everything we needed...good restaurants, little shops, people haha. So we got up in the morning and went for a little hike around Kuta, Bali in search for a new hotel. This is where we came upon Beneyasa I. This was it for us, georgous pool, nice room, two seperate beds, ceiling fan. We were sold. Plus we got it for 10,000 rupiahs a night which turns out to be like $5 each. I know you can't go wrong with that. I know that your probably thinking, why do you need a pool, why not just hang out on the beach and go swimming in the ocean? Well I'll answer that question with one simple answer...Kuta Beach was nasty. Trash everywhere, even in the water so we opted for the pool.
The pool was amazing. I've got pictures to prove it haha. It was a little slice of heaven and ladies would come by and offer back massages. $7 for an hour long massage!? I'm sold =)
Then there's the night life...first and foremost, people don't go out in Bali till late. And by late I
mean not till midnight and then they don't get home till like 6 in the morning. Now Katrina and I weren't use to this change of nightlife pace so we would always start a little earlier and end a little earlier but we still had loads of fun.
We ended up going to a place called The Engine Room and drinks were 2 for 1 as soon as the sun set till midnight. Now you all know that I'm not an alcoholic or anything closley remote to that but you better believe that we took full advantage of that 2 for 1. They had these giant drinks in fish bowls for like $4, that's only $2 each! You would have to be stupid for not taking advantage of that.
Now you might be wondering about this Wendy Bear person that I spoke of in my title...well this is where Wendy Bear comes in. At The Engine Room they sell Jungle Juice (one of the most delicious things I have ever tasted) and they come in these giant cups with this bear on them called Wendy Bear. We think it's like an Indonesian version of Winnie the Pooh. Anyway, Wendy Bear
became our close and personal friend...I even jacked a cup to take home with me...unless I decide to throw it out along the way which is possible.
So while in Kuta, we spent the majority of our time walking about the town and scootering it around town (yes, we rented a scooter and though it may have seemed like a death wish it really wasn't. It was just what we needed), laying next to the pool and tanning, and drinking and eating a little bit. Simply put, it was paradise for us and couldn't get any better until...we decided to go to the Gili Islands...
The Gili Islands so far...
Now there are three Islands that make up the Gili's...Gili Air, Gili Meno, and Gili Trawangan. We are on the largest, Gili Trawangan and this is the definition of Paradise! Crystal clear waters, sandy beaches, nice people, amazing rooms, amazing food and drinks, the works.
They have these amazing set ups to watch movies in. You have your own personal cabana hut with a TV, DVD player, light, fan, table, cushions and the best part of all is it's free to use! They have a wide range of
Beneyasa
See I told you the pool was amazing movies to watch and it's really nice to sit there, have a little lunch, watch a movie and enjoy the changing temperature as the sun goes down.
Last night we met three Canadians, Lenny, Ashley and Gillian from Vancouver Island. We hung out with them last night and danced at one of the clubs here. They leave tomorrow but it was nice meeting people our age. Well I don't really have a whole lot more to add about Gili Trawangan so I'll stop here for now and I'll write some more in a few days.
Love you all!
I can't believe I almost forgot about all the Bobs!!! So all over Bali and Gili Trawangan there are hundreds of cats and the majority of them look like my little Jo Jo kitty which I love. The difference though is that they all have bobbed tails hence the reason we call them all Bob. So when we see one we say something like ""There goes Bob number 9,837"" or something along those lines haha. The reason I mention this is not cause I miss my little kitty but because we have apparently adopted a little kitty friend of our own
and we like to call her Bob number 9,852. We know it's a girl cause she's a little on the preggo side. I'll try and add a pic =)
