I loved the region of Ubud 9 years ago - that was the only part in Bali which really got under my skin. So, of course, I wanted to share this experience this time with Markus. That is why we came here. But beforehand I was warned a bit by many vlogs - Ubud seemed to have changed quite a bit. Still all vloggers come here and stay longterm in Ubud or Canggu and rave about it. But watching different ... Read Full Entry

Ubud is completely transformed
My first visit was in 1993. I stayed with a local family on Jalan Karna right next to the market. Those days, rice paddies were the predominant landscape, and the market actually sold vegetables, not tacky tourist souvenirs. I was completely enchanted with Ubud. I have subsequently visited in 2011, 2013, 2017, and 2019. Nowadays, I prefer to base myself at Penestanan, which is a little but away from the main crowds. Your treehouse accommodation sounds amazing; I may have to check it out sometime. Looking forward to learned about your additional Bali adventures off the beaten path.

Bali now and then
Bali and especially Ubud must have been beautiful at those times! You still can find these corners. When you walk through the villages surrounding Ubud, you can guess how it looked like. Must have been amazing in 1993!

So Ubud of old is no more
I also remember Ubud as a nice cosy village. Now I know that it isn't so anymore. Well, I have also heard stories from other travellers so I sort of knew that. But Indonesia is large and there are thousands of other places worth visiting. /Ake

Peaceful Places
I love the way you are able to find these amazing, secluded and peaceful places, even in the busy tourist hubs. The Tree House must have been a wonderful place to stay ?

Lost its soul
We enjoyed our time in Bali in 2007. Even though we enjoyed Ubud immensely our favorite was seeing the dolphins in Lovina Beach. We are drawn to water and watching animals in their natural habitat. The tree house sounds lovely. I don't think we will go back to Ubud it might make us too sad.
