The next two days are football focused, with today being the Clemson/Ohio State game and then tomorrow the Seahawk/49er game. Luckily, we found a great beach bar with TV’s and the right channels, so we aren’t missing a thing!
Our first night at the Nike Villa room was quite comfy, with a big king-sized bed, blasting AC and being very quiet. I am posting some pictures of the property, which is quite serene and tropical. We enjoyed our full breakfast in the small little outside eating area and then got ready to walk the 1+ mile to the Sanur Beach House for the 9am Clemson kick-off.
Even at 830a the sun is hot and by the time we arrived to the bar, we were sweating and ready for some cold refreshments. Since it was still early, we opted for non-alcoholic and I tried a Beach House made tonic water with ginger, turmeric and tamarind, which is supposed to have a bunch of healthful ju-ju. Couldn’t hurt and it tasted great, plus was really refreshing.
The game was one of the best we have seen in a long time and it came down to the last play to determine
the winner. It was looking bleak in the first quarter, as Clemson was down 16-0, but finally turned on some magic and made it a game. Ohio played well too, so kudos to both teams…. with Clemson finally coming out the victor.
We had been at the bar for 3+ hours, consumed many bottles of water, a couple of cokes, a tonic, several beers (once half time hit!), a couple of Radlers ( like a lemon beer but taste more like lemonade) and lunch….all for about $35. The prices here continue to amaze us.
Once the game was over, we walked back to the Villa’s, cooled off in the pool and had our tea delivered (pineapple crepes and ginger tea) and hung the rest of the day. We did do a little shopping in the evening at some local stalls, which included me doing some bargaining and ended the evening at a small Warung (cafe) around the corner from the Villa’s for dinner.
Our Monday was a bit of a repeat of Sunday. We relaxed with breakfast and contemplated our last full day in Bali. The Seahawks game started at 9am, but instead of going for the
full game, we decided on heading over to the Beach House at half time. The Villa’s have bicycles to use, so what the heck…we opted to do a ride to the beach bar.
The main road down to the bar has a bike lane, but it was still a bit nerve-racking riding without a helmet. After my spill last year where I landed on my head, I have a healthy respect for protecting my head. Nevertheless, we gave it a go and easily wove our way amongst the motorbikes, tourists and cars down to the bar.
We arrived during the third quarter with the Seahawks down, but soon they were scoring and right back in the game. It as Mexican Monday at the Beach House, so we ordered some nacho’s which were quite good! The game ended up being quite exciting and like the Clemson game, not determined until the very last play. Unlike Clemson, our team lost…so not the best outcome. But, being able to enjoy the great football games while in a beach bar in Bali, was definitely fun!!
Rather than riding on the road, we took the beach boardwalk back to the Villas. It
was a bit slower, as there were many walkers and every 100 yards a barrier we had to walk around. The bikes are welcomed, but it is clear they don’t want any speedsters on the path. We did a quick dip in the Indian ocean, but there was a lot of seagrass and a bit of trash, so didn’t spend a lot of time. I preferred the pool!
The rest of the day was a clone of the previous, ending with another dinner at the Lilla Warung around the corner from the Villas. We almost went to another place out on the beach, but it was mostly Western food, and we figured for our last night we needed to enjoy Balinese!!
