Not such an early start this morning for us. The aforementioned heavenly beds and luxurious aircon kept us snuggled up in bed until 8am.
By 8:15am I was ready to rock and roll, get busy livin', and enjoy a morning engulfed in the Bali experience. Briony was ready at 9:15am.
So off we ventured, a quick trip to the beach was on the cards. The sun was beaming, and the phone stating a 30° heat. Not too shabby for monsoon season! But all too quickly this short walk turned into harassment city. Every vendor vying for us to spend our cash in their small boutique. Each market stall a replica of the many before it, I can understand their need to be slightly more aggressive in gaining my custom due to the sheer volume of competition they have. However, it only made me avoid them.
Maintaining a polite rebuff to their invites have been exhausting. Yet, I still do not want to be rude. Dispite one attempt of one lady holding my hand and then quickly attempting to tie a bracelet to my wrist. (I moved lightning quick, snatching my hand from her embrace... I know this trick!
I did my Bali research!) Thankfully Briony was just as clued on! We escaped bare wristed.
The road we walked was tiny, room for one car only at a time. But the scooters and motorbikes were crazy. How they squeeze through any gap amazes me. They drive with surf boards strapped to the side, and pile up the items on the back. And with with such ease, it secretly make me want to have a go.
Alas, we made it to the beach! But walking on I could see all the vendors eyeing us up as a potential sale. Being swift as a coursing river (#mulan), we were able to dodge the offers of chairs and surf lessons and made it to the beach for a gentle walk along the water.
No photos from the beach I'm afraid, however there are plenty more to come, I'm sure. After the briefest of strolls (and nearly being taken out by some waves) we ventured for food. Leaving the beach was easier, and being serenaded by two locals on a scooter was a lovely treat (one looked like a slimmer Maui from Moana! And boy did he have a good
voice. Like a siren on the shores tempting the sailors, I was slight drawn to him ?).
The local Macdonalds was calling to us, but we decided to go somewhere a tad fancier. Briony opted for a ham and cheese croissant, I the avocado on bread with a poached egg (I swear, going forward I will eat more local food lol!). And boy did the meals not disappoint. I swear the food here is far better than back home. If they do a decent roast dinner, I won't be coming back ??.
The hassle of walking back through the market streets was looming, opting to come back to the hotel instead of sweating in the midday heat. The harressment was tamer on the return, although one man did grab my hand and say "I know you long time, yeah?" Lol!. On our way back we bought some clothes and experienced the fun of haggling. So much more fun than I thought, and this was all before 12pm. After that experience, I felt like a pro. Certain I'll be haggling in Tescos on my next weekly shop!
Once back at the hotel, we hit the pool. Hoping to
catch some colour and have a dip after sweating so much. We were treated to a private DJ session, just for Briony and I, as we enjoyed the pool to ourselves. A lovely Aussie lady had changed her life two years ago and decided to become a DJ, she used us as guinea pigs, and it was awesomely chilled. We were just missing a cocktail or two... But I refused to leave the pool to get cash out of my room.
A quick dip in the pool turned into a 4 hour pool party for two! Although we were joined by two more BalIntro girls for a nice chat and to arrange a quick visit to the water park on Tuesday. But dinner was calling, thankfully we both caught some colour in the midday sun. Unfortunately, it was the colour red. ?? Oops!
My next meal was more traditional, Nasi Goreng: Indonesian fried rice, with chicken, spring roll, pickled veg and a sunny side egg on top (pic included).. and it was delicious! Every part of the dish was an explosion in my mouth, I was drooling with every anticipated bite. Briony had chocolate and banana american pancakes
?. Which did look good too. But I can not deny our drinks were equally as spectaular (See pic).
Utterly stuffed we headed back for the room. For the second time we planned to watch the sunset, and for the second time we fell asleep and missed it. Those darn beds!
We woke at 9pm, and enjoyed watching the new Jumanji on the Tele. Although Brionys constant laughing made her miss half the film. She loved every moment of it. Life in Bali, so far, has been quite the Jumanji adventure.
Much love,
Amy & Briony
