We arrived at our guesthouse in Candi Kuning and had lunch there. The area was very quiet and green and there were lots of cages with beautiful birds hanging around the guesthouse. We had lunch in this beautiful room which looked like a wooden tree cabin, with a spectacular view of Bratan lake and the mountains. I wasn't feeling too good - the altitude upset my ears - so I went for a lay down while Shaun went for a drive on a scooter we had rented. Later, we went for a drive together and had dinner in a local restaurant - at a much better price than in Ubud. We didn't see many tourists around, so it felt like we saw some of the real Bali! On the next day, after a lovely breakfast at ... read more

I thought it would be a good idea to break from the diving routine once a week and go for a landscape photographic adventure and choose a different location each time. Bali has a lot of temples, some facing the mountains, some facing the sunset, some facing the sunrise, some facing the water. All sorts of people from all over the world to visit them for different reasons: to admire the Arquitecture or the gardens, tradition, spirituality...I find them energizing and peaceful, with a lot of healing powers from crossing vibes from generations and generations of visitors. We chose to go visit the water temple in Beratan Lake: Pura Ulun Danu in Danau Beratan, Tabanan Bali as its one of the most dramatic visually because of its location up in the mountains besides a lake. Beratan ... read more

We stayed in a resort right on the shore of Beratan lake, and in the morning I was woken up by a sound of drums. A crowd of people gathered by the shore, at the place with an ancient-looking stone god statue. They sang, played the drums, rang the bells, worshiped the gods of the lake, and many were simply chattering and hanging around. Women were carrying gifts to the gods. A colorful procession with gifts and umbrellas came almost right into the water to place the gifts. I was told that it was the festival of cleaning the water of the lake. What surprised me, after the ceremony was over and all the people were gone, is how much litter they left on the shore O_O Of course they cleaned it up afterwards, but part ... read more

This zoo is located right in the main street of Bedugul (a village near Beratan lake), not far from Ejung Beji resort. It's not actually a zoo but a place where you can touch, feed, play with, and take photos of Indonesian animals. The most unusual experience was playing with flying foxes. They sniffed and tenderly bit our fingers :) It's one of the few places in the world where you can see them so close and even touch them. The boa crawled me all over, the hedgehog tried to dig into my hands. There are also iguanas, mongoose, chameleon, a few kinds of turtles. Imagine what feeling it is, when a mongoose runs from your one shoulder to another =) This is a place I recommend for all who like animals :)... read more
