First of all, I must thank my newly found friend for encouraging me to write this. I am not a "blogger." I am a traveller. Inveterate. Usually silent. This is not my blog. I am posting here now, on his blog, after a tireless beer drenched encouragement. We met in a Kolkata bar, one usually wallpapered with travelers, but as you might expect hardly so now, especially in India. Actually, the current state of the "bar" is such that it is more of a speakeasy for expatriates trapped here and looking for escape routes, or seeking out remote places to weather the viral storm. I had come to Kolkata from such a place for the sole purpose of resupplying. The port in the storm where I have found myself will go unrecognized, spoken of only "on ... read more

It was my 5th visit to the Jim Corbett national but not the usual one as I have always preferred staying at the resorts but this time I had chosen to stay inside the deep forest area. I made the booking for Bijrani forest around 30 days prior to the actual date. The check in date was 17th Dec 2020 and most of the restrictions due to Covid were lifted off. However, masks were mandatory for everyone. We left Delhi around 5:00 AM in the morning and it took just 4 hours 30 minutes to reach Jim Corbett . We then moved to a resort for having some breakfast and around 11:00 AM our Jeep arrived at the resort to take us inside the forest. Amdanda gate is the entrance point of Bijrani zone where we ... read more

29th March - Holi Festival #heygo http://www.heygo.com Holi Festival Celebrates With Color A festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil, Holi is a celebration of the arrival of spring and harvests to come. It’s the Holi festival of colors, emotions, and happiness. It’s based on the legend of Krishna, who was self-conscious about the blue colour of his face, due to being poisoned by breast milk. He was in despair because he believed Radha and other girls wouldn’t like him. He told his mother, who advised him to paint his face so that his colour didn’t matter. The central ritual of Holi is the throwing and applying of colored water and powders on friends and family, which gives the holiday its common name “Festival of Colors.” Brightly colored powders are the mainstay of the ... read more

26th March Koley Wholesale Market #heygo http://www.heygo.com Koley Market is situated just beside the Sealdah Station, which is one of the busiest railway stations in India. Kolkata city officially got two major railway stations, Sealdah and Kolkata railway station. The famous Howrah railway station is officially not in Kolkata city but it is in Howrah city which is just the opposite side of Hooghly River – a tributary of the Ganges. Koley market is a place where the farmers bring their fresh vegetables to sale at a wholesale price; retailers come here to buy from them. http://www.heygo.com 13th March - Amber Fort - Jewel of Jaipur The historic hill fort rises above the town of Amer (it is sometimes called Amer Fort), which was the capital of the Kuchwaha Rajputs from the 11th to the 18th century. Construction began in 1592 by Maharaja Man Singh, a commander in the army of the Mughal emperor Akbar. In shades of honey and rose stone, white marble and gilt decor, Amber Fort is more of a palace than a fortress, and the design is a unique mix of Hindu and Muslim styles. Dilip was our virtual guide & as he climbed the steps he stopped for breath and we could listen to the musician. We entered through Sun Gate, the palace is divided into four main sections, each having its own entry gate and courtyard. ... read more

The thought of backwater cruise, wildlife at national parks and carpet like tea plantation lured me to visit Kerala. Back in March 2018, I, my sister Nyta and my friend Kiko left Jakarta with Malaysian Airlines, transiting in Kuala Lumpur and arrived in the evening. Our driver, Jotish picked us up and took us to Cochin Marriott. On the first day of our visit, we had a city tour, visiting Fort Kochi, famous for its spice trading in the 16th century. We could see the legacy of the spice routes from the historical Portuguese architect design buildings, the names of the street and Chinese Fishing Nets along the coast. Kochi is rich in history as merchants began trading spices, primarily cardamom and black pepper, with European, Middle Easterners and Chinese since 1500. Its history was quite ... read more

So, this was a trip after a year long break from travelling. Anywhere if this sounds poetic , please excuse :) I have tried to control my feelings as much as possible :) After a break of more than a year from traveling, I stepped out of the house and flew to Sikkim. 2020 has been a difficult year for everyone and the only realization i had in 2020 was, the importance of Freedom. This was more of an emotionally journey , with a heart full of excitement. Home is surely the best place and I love it , but a rebound with the incomplete and desired thing is always enticing .There could not have been a better start to the year 2021 than this. So, to get to Sikkim the nearest airport is the Bagdogra airport ... read more

Statue of Unity (SoU): World’s tallest statue and Gujarat’s one of the best tourist destination is located 90 Km from Vadodara and 210 Km from Ahmedabad at the Sardar Sarovar Dam site. Although I called it the ‘one of the best Tourist Destination of Gujarat’, it is far from access to the common man. Facilities are poor (though developing), guidance to the Tourists is non-existent – typical of (Gujarat) Government. How do you reach? Only if you are RICH – you have to have your own vehicle or afford taxi. GSRSTC (state transport) is running special buses from Gandhinagar / Ahmedabad, one always has doubts about their regularity. If you want to enjoy all the attractions, one day is not enough. Staying overnight – again expensive – but must be worth it – I have not ... read more

This trip was planned to go back and stay with my dad and grandmother in Delhi. So I planned it for Gandhi Jayanti long weekend. It was raining for past few weeks and there was a doubt that it can play spoilsport for our plan since we were on a tight schedule. The first hurdle came when our luggage to be mounted on the carrier exceeded its capacity and we had to cover it with car body cover (bad decision!).Now the 2nd problem was that we have packet additional items which did not fit in our boot space. We had to discard a few bags at the very last moment before starting from home. As we sat in the car it started raining, but it was short lived and after a 5 min scare it subsided and we were ... read more
