Train Station
Us in hour 2 of the train station wait. Our first outing with my parents was to Ranthambhore National Park....we were heading to Khem Villas and planned on enjoying both an early morning and an afternoon Safari.
The day didn't really begin as planned.....see excerpts from my mom's journal entry:
"Let me just say that we have had some experiences that I cannot do justice to in an e-mail. But, never-the-less I will give you a quick synopsis. The train to reach Ranthambor was really something. First of all....if anyone wants to REALLY see India , they should spend 3 hours at the Delhi train station!
Our train was 3 hours late getting to us...no one knew why, and really, no mention was made of it so we sat and watched the events unfold. It was priceless. All the dirt and shit (and I mean that literally) and rats, and beggars were present and accounted for in the Delhi train station. While we waited we saw men in suits, kids without pants, women in saris, and dirty people walking on their knees because their legs were deformed. We watched mother's holding their precious children over the rails so they could "do their business" right on the tracks,
Mom and Trash
Mom standing by the "Clean Train Station" sign. There was also an interesting Shamen or holy man strolling about with his handmade three-pronged trident. There were clusters of some sort of clan folks, all sitting on the filthy floor and sharing deep thoughts. The train station drinking fountain is also a popular laundry facility and spitting station. It is also home to some very large sewer rats which entertained us with their antics. It was all fantastic. This was a really very eye opening but totally wonderful experience and all 4 of us agreed we were happy we decided to take the train.
Kehm Villas was fantastic! Our tents were incredible the place tranquil and beautiful and the food absolutely great! Everything about this place was 1st class and wonderful. Our safari ride......Oh yeah! 4 TIGERS! No one, not even our guide and driver could believe we were so lucky! And we got pictures and video to prove it."
