My goodness the fort here is unlike any other it is really lived in by the locals and full of guest houses and small hotels although the open sewers tell their own story!!!!!!!!I gather it is slowly being eroded by over population and destroyed by too many tourists which is one reason we stated outside of the fort.
Last night we went on a trip with some fellow tourists in our hotel who were from belgium and france. We firstly were driven into the desert ina jeep a dusk and then wandered through a typical desert village.Katie and I felt very uncomfortable doing this as it all felt very artificial and the villages seemed to perform as characters on stage. We arrived at a remaote area and were faced woth a line of tick ridden camels!
Yes we all amnaged to mount the things and hold on even when they got up.We were led into the desert, and enjoyed a trip into the dunes. We sat drinking coke watching the sun go down(not very good due to previous nights storm!)
We then travelled back by camel and listened to the sound of the peacocks(mackinnon children, education note ,peacocks are the national bird of India)
We then listened to a gypsy family play folk music and dance whilst we dined on a typical desert menu washed done with an indian beer. Then back into the jeep and back into town.
We are checking out today and jumping on a train to Delhi Whoppeee it only takes 20 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Natural History Lessons
Well, I must be getting brave as I'm posting my 2nd comment to you now. Or... the red wine is doing a particularly good job tonight. Kiddies and adults alike enjoying updates on Indian wildlife. The bit about peacocks - I said "Well, I didn't know that". Euan and Duncan both immediately said "I did". Left behind by 8 year olds, I ask you. Anyway, it seems as if you have been away for a month, Karen, with all that you are fitting in. We are looking forward to the lecture tour on your return - lots of lizard, chipmunk, monkey, spider etc slides please. So glad you are having such an experience, the two of you! Kx
