Yeehaaa - The adventure begins as we set off at out of Delhi at the speed of a relaxed snail and into the rush hour traffic... How busy and how loud - wow, through the noise we learn our drivers name is Harish and he likes Indian Music - I felt like I was in UK curry house and asked for 2 lamb Buna’s, anyway Harish seems like a nice enough fellow and just as was as we will be spending lots and lots of time with him over the next 3 weeks...
Instead of driving straight to Bikaner we decided to break up the trip and stop off in Mandawa at a little resort - I know, it's a hard life we lead... Quite a few hours later we arrive at a very relaxing place with not much to do but the sun is shining and bar is open - I’ve been in worse places to relax for a night that’s for sure...
The next day we head towards Bikaner which takes a few more hours in the car and we notice Harish likes to think he's Michael Schumacher and has two main hobbies which are either playing chicken with
on coming traffic which is normally trucks, or overtaking on blind corners - thank goodness for blind faith... This could also explain why when we get to Bikaner we discover that the clutch plate is broken, not only does he think he's Schumacher but he thinks he's driving a Ferrari as opposed to a beat up old Suzuki... Anyway, he arranges for us to go on a tour of the old Bikaner Fort and we soon join a tour - however we are the only two white people on the tour and the rest is filled with local people... The tour guide shows around the fort and every time he finishes in Indian he then refers to Mr Steve and repeats everything in English - apparently it's the men who wear the pants out here - are you listening Suzanne...
After the fort tour and Schumacher has had his Ferrari repaired by the Indian pit crew we headed towards the "temple of scuttling things" - yep you guessed it - a temple that worships rats - how bizarre. When you arrive you have to take your shoes off and enter the temple filled and I mean filled with rats. Legend
has it if they run over your feet then this will bring you luck, lets just say I’m a very lucky boy, I don’t think Suzanne however was quite as keen to let the rats run over her feet and when I "accidentally" brushed her foot with mine while she was taking a picture there was a loud scream to be heard for miles. To Suzanne's credit she went in all the rooms and I think even enjoyed the experience - proud of you girl...
Tomorrow we leave the rats behind and if all goes well we should be going on a Camel Safari and spending the night in the desert - should be interesting...

Fort Worth is cold!
Greetings Mr Steve, ha ha, reminded me of 'it aint alf hot mum'. You will be known as Mr Steve forthwith. Been following your travels so far, looks great! India looks very interesting as are your journals. Keep them coming, Im looking for plenty of info for near future reference. This travelblog thingy looks a good idea, I think I will sign up to enthuse people with my travels to Benbrook lake and the Trinity trail. Spent last weekend in and around Amarillo. To its credit, we found a cool bar/restaurant, and Palo Duro canyon was stunning. Cant believe I have driven past it so many times. Shame it was so cold, but not as cold as this weekend, its been all icy with Texan driving skills showing themselves. Enjoy the glycerine in the beer! Cheers
