Keoladeo National Park So glad to leave Agra and the horrid sweat box behind - did not get a good sleep at all! The shower was sparse at best and Sarah ended up with a bug on her leg. But anyway, it's in the past and we are in a lovely - and brand new - room in a nice hotel.
Not a great journey. The first bus from Agra was full and when the next arrived (30m late of course) it was a mad pushy scramble to get on and get a seat. Super tired so was feeling crabbit but trying not to be outwardly so. Got some heavy angry music on my ipod and turned it up loud and also played some solitaire to pass the time.
We were not at our final destination when we got off the bus and so we put our luggage in a room in a guest house in Fatehpur Sikri then went to see a palace and mosque which were interesting but were all suffering in the heat which is unusual for this time of year and today was hotter than others - maybe around 36oC and very very humid. Bought a fan, which
I will use and then send for my Grandma if haven't broken it.
We had a nice lunch at the guest house then got our own bus out to the Birders Inn, just by the park where we went bird spotting. It's great having A/C, a big bed plus a nice regular pillow having used my fleece last night as the 'pillow' was bits of nasty looking foam stuffed in a dirty looking pillow case. There are a few ants around here but used to them now and it's only one or two.
We had a delightful time in the bird reserve, guided by Mohammed a local amateur ornithologist who took us on his cycle rickshaw and was very knowledgeable. We had a good chat with him and found out he is 24, has 2 kids, and had been married 8 years.
At one point we were looking at painted heron and heard a loud chirping form the bushes by the water. Just spotted a tiny baby bird when it moved into the water - at first I thought it had gone in itself but then realised it was in the jaws of a baby Cobra. Was
Inside
Fatehpur Sikri a bit shocked, couldn't believe the poor thing had just become a snakes tea. Speaking of which, we had a nice buffet before enjoying a cool shower and relaxing.
General thoughts for today
- pleased to be in a decent hotel and looking forward to (hopefully) a good nights sleep
- becoming friends with the ants of India, a forced friendship but no longer upset by a few of them
- had a lovely time in the park - the guide was great and hope he and his family are well and liking the massive tip Sarah insisted we give him
