Laura in Paris
Nice hat, lady. Day4
Post-breakfast, Mumbai, Marine Plaza Hotel Inquiring minds details:
bathrooms? so far, a-okay, in fact, very nice and clean.
Exchange rate?very good (~47 rupees to one U.S.$)
Prices? We're staying high end. Tips for guides -- 100-200 rupees; very nice midnight buffet dinner--~$11/each.
Food? Based on two meals, both in the hotel restaurant. Really great. Mixed cuisines. (midnight buffet had Italian, Chinese, but mostly Indian) (breakfast had British and Indian). As for the Indian, I generally have no idea what it is, even after eating it, but it's delicious. Interesting note -- Indian vegetarians do eat milk and cheese but not eggs. Most food follows this formula, but there are meat options. For trying-not-to-eat-meat-eaters like Laura and I, protein is a challenge. The Atkins diet would be impossible.
Crime? Street crime reported to be very, very low in this part of the city.
Staff personalities? Very nice and helpful.
Internet access? Obviously (for now).
Weather? Hot, muggy. Went outside to take photos; my camera lens fogged.
Etc (Dress/sexism/cultural issues/exercise)? Most of the staff are men, of apparently all classes and religions, based on their dress. They have treated Laura and I respectfully. On the promenade, small number of people (Indians) were
jogging -- men in shorts; women -- I don't remember. They were running very slowly. Ít's very hot. I'll stick to the indoor fitness center today.
