some of the kids at the boy's home.
see how happy there are after being given a speck of paint and a paper aeroplane! hey everybody tis alibongo here again!sorry we haven't been keeping you up to date but we seriously have no time and it takes a few hours to do one entry!!sooooo, well i don't know where to start so i'll just type and hope that it makes sense!
Living in Banglore has been pretty fine and breezy, the roads are still crazy and the smog ad heat a tad sickly but it's still fun! we've gathered a bit of a party reputation now due to the fact that we like to go out a lot, but there's so much to see and so little time! there's a really cool club called NYX that is on a rooftop and has tables outside and two dancefloors inside. it's pretty jazzy with nice food and music but is god darned expensive! alcohol prices here are often equal to the same price in the UK! we've found a couple of cheaper places too, I checked out a place called Hypnos last night with Steven and Lisa and that was pretty groovy and chilled too and not too expensive. the only annoying thing is that everywhere closes at 11.30! i know we keep mentioning it but it
Pavan and an indian penguin!
this dude is reeeally good at the arty stuff. makes one fell so rushed when one is trying to partay! we have decided to stay one week longer in Banglore. i really want to see the beginning of a 3 month long project at the children's homes and 10 new interns are starting so we can have a week of partying with new people! we have moved into the flat above the office accomodation to make room as Maeve and Jagan are away on their honeymoon. so i'll shut up about Bangalore now and try to tell you about the new places we've visited recently, and the pictures are all you guys look for i know that!ooo, just remembered!i got my ear pierced at the top yesterday in bangalore, it was crazy how they peirce! the guy just took the hoop an then sharpened the end to a point with a knife and then stook it right in my ear and then bent it back into shapewith plyers! it's well fun! apparently all of the interns have been pierced there and my friend goes there a lot so he's pretty trsusworthy. they use coconut oil for everything here, and i've been told to use that to help it heal!
a typical autorickshaw meter
i don't know why you would find it interesting, but it has been the source of conflict many a time on a night out!silly rickshaw drivers, some are nice though and i've been pretty lucky! our friend Nittya had her ear pierced with a gem right in the centre of her ear which looks really cool so i may get that done on tuesday! don't know if its dangerous getting pierced there though so i'll research first but it's only like 70p!
so not last weekend but the weekend before, i can't recall the dates, we took a trip to Kushalnagar to see some Tibetan settlements. man what a weekend! it was jam packed and i don't lknow where to start! there were 9 of us packed into a 6 seater car for the 5 hour journey there which was an interesting start, anfd then we checked into a loage. it was pretty basic with cockroaches etc, but you come to expect that. one even crawled along lenka's face in the middle of the night! when we arose on saturday we took a rickshaw to visit a temple for the tibetan buddhist monks, it was beautiful and colourful and so peaceful! we met a monk near the end of our lookj around and he showed us some sights himself and invited us to the cermony on sunday at 3am to celebrate the tibetan new year!
a strange gravy dish at NYX
tara moving in for the big moment... so after that we went to a little restaurant fr some delish tibetan noodles and then went for s stroll. we met a guy called Nema when we were passing through a settlement who told us of the fact that if we were caught there without a permit the police could lock us away for 5 years! we was pretty blase about it though and invited us all back to his house to meet his family. the people were so amazingly welcoming, i couldn't believe it! you would never get that in britain, there were 9 of us sat in their living room eating their snakcs and drinking their beer and sprite! as it was the tibetan new year that night, tara steve and i went to the new years eve party in the settlement. fortunately there were no police around and all went swimmingly! it was so strange though to be at a chinese new years rave in a tibetan settlement in the middle of india! i felt like i was no longer there!
anyway, it was a great night and that best part is when we returned and had only half an hour of sleep before we got
up again for that ceremony!argh! we were shattered and smelly but it was fab, we were given breakfast and seats and even were blessed by the Lama! after that, we went on a trek up some hills and through some trees. it was hot and tiring but great to be doing some exercise! a very strange thing happened when we were at the top of a hill though. we were looking down at a nearby forest fire and then a huge gust of wind swept over us throwing dust into my eyes and sending everybody to the ground! it was soooo strange and even out tour guide had never seen such a spectacle. i was just trying to clear my eyes when everybody was looking at a plastic thing that had floated up miles into the sky. a minute later we discovered that during the blast my bandana had been rippedoff my head and was indeed on a flying adventure itself! i hope it found a nice home!
so after the trek we were pretty tired but woke ourselfes upo for maisire's 18th birthday celebration at a nearby resturant. oh my the food in kushalnagar was fantastic! i became addicted
hmm just noticed that all of following pics have the time and date on them!
ooooo the glowsticks....to follow was a bit of a mess relating to glow juice and tara's poor white blouse. it really has been through a few battles! to paneer butter masala but trust me you can too much of a good thing!
so on the monday we decided that we would try and join in at a little festival in one of the settlements. we met a guy called nawang who come with us, but unfortunately the police wouldn't let us past and we and nawang got a bit of a telling off for being there!
after that we visited a nearby park with monkeys and a river and an elephant. i did ride it but wouldn't recomment it. it was boring anyway and definatelt not worth the pain and boredom the poor thing must go through!and then we went back to bangalore on a bus.
last weekend we travelled for 12 hours on a bus to Gokarna, an area near Goa, for a 5 day holiday. it was amazing! the shopping was ace and the town beautiful and the beaches were paradise! very hot though so i can see why people end up just lying on the beach and swimming in the sea all day. the people there were typical indian hippies and we met a few nice ones who came to join our campfires at
night. we had one advetnture when tara lenka and i went on a bit of a walk alonf the cliff edge anf then got stuck down in a valley and had to climb our way out! not easy at all in a dress, flip flops and handbag! anyway, the pictures show most of which i cannot put into words about the trip,it was beautiful and hot is all that i can say! im also sweating cobs in this internet cafe so want to use as little words as possible hehe!
this weekend has been fun staying in bangalore, it was anice day for me yesteryda relaxing and then i bought a wonderful red pashmina and had my piercing. god i love it i must get another! tara went on a big mountain trek though, im sure she can tell you more when she puts the photo's up. she came back very burnt and we nicknamed her tomato tara last night hehe! this evening we are all off to a 'cultural jam' thing where we will see some indian rock bands, should be interesting! so over and out for now, ill now spend 2 hours uploading piccies! xxxxxxxxxxxx
