Moutain escape

Hey there

Manali is in two sections. Old (tourist part) and new (the markets and main township). We found ourselfes a beautiful guesthouse calles "apple view". It was a really small place perched on top of a hill, away from the hussel and bussel of the street. It had panoramic views of snow capped mountains and an apple orchard just nearby. It was owned by a gorgous family who were never laking in smiles and hot chai.

The township itself was busy, real busy, with heaps of Indian hoiday makers and of course a fair number of foreigners, the majority being Iraelis. It is a great place to shop, if you are fast of wit and able to keep up the barganing with the sales masters.

It was pretty cold and rained most of the time we were there, but it is a beautiful place with some cute little surrounding villages.

But since we didn't want to freeze anymore (even bying pairs of wollen socks didn't help a great deal) the decision was made, to head to Rewalsar.


Hallo zuhause

Nach der anstrengen Busfahrt und wenig Schlaf sind wir in Manali angekommen. Manali ist in zwei Haelften geteilt, altes (Touristen Part) und neues (Maerkte und die richtige Stadt). Wir haben ein wunderschoenes Gaestehause gefunden mit dem Namen "Apple View" im alten Manali. Es war oben am Berg, nur durch 10 Minuten Fussmarsch zu erreichen, und weit weg von all der Hektick von der Hauptstrasse. Die Besitzerfamilie war supernett und haben uns staendig frischen traditionellen Milch-Tee serviert.
Die richtige Stadt war richtig hektisch, mit jeder Menge Indischer Touristen und natuerlich vielen Auslaendern, ueberwiegend Israelis.
Shopping war recht anstrengend dort, da jeder Inder und in seinen Shop ziehen wollte und dann auch noch das staendige verhandeln.

Die meiste Zeit wars ziemlich kalt und regnerisch, aber ansonsten ists ein wirklich schoener Ort mit vielen kleinen idylischen Doerfern rundherum.

Aber nach einer Woche hatten wir genug gefroren (auch die warmen Wollsocken haben nicht viel genuetzt) und wir haben beschlossen uns auf den Weg nach Rewalsar zu machen.
