Country number 80 I believe. If you've been to Hong Kong, you'll know that it's impossible to do Hong Kong in a day, but that was all I had. I hadnt realised that I would have a stop in HK at all until Thursday, so a quick booking in Lastminute.com (while I was in Korea) delivered the Novotel Century in Wan Chai. It's a really good base for seeing Hong Kong I felt. My room wasn't ready so I got an upgrade to a suite! Posh, or what?!
I managed to see most of Wan Chai, watched the Wales Italy rugby match in the White Stag on Broadway (recommended), went up the funicular tram to the Peak, took the Star ferry to Kowloon, had my lunch in Wing Yuen Congee and Noodle Kitchen (recommended), and checked my luggage in to the 'in town' check-in desk and then spent another hour or so in town before being sped to the airport in the MTR. What a place!! Although I don't like visiting places more than once, I think I will have to get back to Hong Kong with my family some day.
While buying a souvenir in a small shop I saw
that the owner collected paper notes (money) - he had a table with the notes under glass. I also noticed that he didn't have any Scottish notes. Now, the pound note is still legal tender in Scotland and I had two in my wallet, so I gave him one. Boy, was he happy! He gave me a lovely carved wooden Chinese fan as a gift. I thought that was brilliant. And I bought a small laughing Buddha too.
Highs:
Seeing a new groom carry his new bride on his back on the foot massage pebbles behind the Tea Museum.
The Tea Museum.
The skyscrapers ('highs' - get it?).
The atmosphere.
Lows:
It was disappointing that I never saw much of a view from the Peak as there was a lot of low cloud and fog.
My mobile wouldn't work on the HK network.
Making some stupid mistake with my camera and taking a load of photos in black and white.
