The Big BuddhaThe Big BuddhaThe Big Buddha

The Big Buddha - is indeed very big!
Day 2 I woke realising that I had lost my money belt. Not an ideal start, but fortunately only lost easily replacables (cash, travellers cheques and plastic).

In the afternoon, I got the boat out to Lantau Island (near the airport) and looked at the Big (bronze) Buddah. It was very indeed very big. I then bussed to a fascinating fishing village called Tai O where the people live in houses built on stilts in the water in the bay. It looks a very poor place by HK standards, but had an excellent looking childrens playground (as well as a clinic, fire service etc). There's a market selling dried fish products - mostly dried fish skins which I found hard to imagine the appeal of.
