The Ocean Bar Where the Singles and Solos Met
Tour Days 143 & 144, Cruise Days 41 & 42 – Days at Sea – Both days were spent getting ready to depart ms Westerdam. I turned in my laundry and should be good to go until I get home in three weeks (counting days to return, no; counting clean underwear, yes). Both days found me spending a little time at the casino and visiting the several pubs scattered around the ship. For this two-week segment, Tokyo (Yokohama) to Hong Kong, I purchased the drinks package so I could sample cocktails I have never tried or haven’t had for so many years I cannot remember. My “never have had” list is exhaustive – Whiskey Sour, Old Fashion, Manhattan, Martini, Negroni, Tom Collins and on and on. I have lived a pretty sheltered life in the larger, more “sophisticated” view of the “country club set” – 90% beer, 5% wine and 5% distilled spirits. I have heard of a wino, but is there a beero? Part of the “Have-It-All” package also included “Specialty Dining.” No mention of where, how often, etc. I inquired and learned that I had purchased two dinners at the upscale eateries aboard ship, so I went to dinner

Lots of Mirrors to Make Everything Appear What It Wasn't
with two very interesting ladies I had met at the Singles and Solos Meet-Up. Both were single and never-married and both were career law enforcement officers but not in the traditional sense – they were U.S. Postal Inspectors – and both were very well-travelled. They went wherever they wanted, whenever they wanted. One retired to Michigan while the other stayed in southern California. We had nice meals and some great conversation.

A good portion of my time was spent planning for the next few days after departure from the ship, but I did walk around the ship shooting some photos of the vessel’s décor. I hope you enjoy them. A Google search for the “Best Attractions in Hong Kong” didn’t even reveal a hit for tripadvisor.com. According to booking.com, the Google link provided on screen one, the 10 “Best Attractions in Hong Kong” are (a countdown, please) – 10. Concrete-crafting Workshop in Sham Shui Po; 9. Two-hour Watchmaking Workshop; 8. Leather Workshop in Causeway Bay; 7. Peppa Pig Indoor Karting Experience; 6. Noah's Ark Hong Kong Admission; 5. Lipstick-making Workshop in Causeway Bay; 4. The Art of Chocolate Tour with Chocolate Tasting; 3. LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre Hong Kong; 2.

There Were Lots of Nooks and Crannies to Read a Book or Chat
Sky100 Observation Deck; and (Drum Roll, Please) 1. Hong Kong Disneyland Ticket. Digging deeper into the tripadvisor.com web site yielded very different results with an identical reaction: 10. Ocean Park; 9. Victoria Harbour; 8. Ngong Ping 360; 7. Nan Lian Garden; 6. Hong Kong Tramways (Ding Ding); 5. Hong Kong Skyline; 4. Hong Kong Disneyland; 3. Tian Tan Buddha (Big Buddha); 2. Star Ferry; and (another Drum Roll, Please) 1. Victoria Peak (The Peak). Wow, Mom and Dad, Disneyland is on both lists. See, I told you, we have to go! Usually the double-decker hop-on, hop-off bus makes the “city’s best” list but not so with Hong Kong. It was beginning to look like a doctor’s appointment might be the highlight of my time in Hong Kong!

Harbor Lights
I really liked those early morning harbor pictures. Frameable.
