Hong Kong July 5th
Once again my day began with me waking up and showering. Today we endured two lectures, one on crime in China and the other I don’t know because I was falling in and out of consciousness the entire time. I remember the lecturer's name was Brian because he was kind of fresher looking than most lecturers (if you get what I mean ;-))
It was actually really funny because one of the Taiwanese students actually fell asleep snoring (Archie)! Same with their professor! NOBODY paid attention to that lecture. After discussion we went on a field trip to Stanley.
Stanley is a huge tourist attraction spot where all the super rich people have vacation homes and stuff. Me and Dr. Sharon (Xiangrong) Liu were trying to negotiate prices for 'I love HK' shirts. The price she wanted to get it for was 20 HK dollars but the lowest we could get it was 35 and the most expensive being 38. We tried looking elsewhere but I ended up not getting the shirt because the shops all closed very early. So I was a little bit sad.
But we ended up jumping into the water
by this giant stone rock formation thing, I'll post the pictures of it up. The water was sooo warm and nice!! Justin, Don, and Donny ended up going swimming but all but Don got their feet SEVERELY CUT by the barnacles and sharp rocks; I mean, the water wasn't that deep, it was actually very shallow. We all chipped in to begin the “foot operation” on the sidewalk of the beach. Two of the Taiwan students helped out too. It was actually pretty funny in my opinion, Justin was just screaming the whole time so Mohawk Ryan ended up giving him 2 beers, the first of which Justin drank with no problems but the second one he dropped on the foot about 10 minutes after his "makeshift operation". (haha)
After that we all ate in different places. The food was REAL expensive but it was really good as well. I ate with James, Nick, Tiny, Dr. To, and Dr. Liu. After dinner we boarded the bus back to the University…
I’ll tell you; this bus ride was probably the scariest bus ride I’ve been on in all my time in china! It was soooo scary! I don’t think I’ve described
the buses of Hong Kong in any blogs yet, but they are very large and somehow the drivers are able to drive these large buses on the very narrow streets of Hong Kong; the streets of hong Kong have no more than 2 lanes (sometimes 3) at any given time, unlike highways in Atlanta Georgia, or Beijing. But we were driving on a mountain—a very high, HIGH MOUNTAIN—REALLY fast—on NARROW streets—and verrry tight turns—at NIGHT—on a really large BUS—FILLED with students….
I.
WAS.
SCARED!
At one point I swear the bus bottomed out and left pieces of itself behind on the street. James told me he was really scared we were going to fall off the edge of the mountain last night.
Eventually when we went back to the dorms I guess everyone else was still hanging out and drinking in the computer lab somewhere in the college. I kept on hearing things on facebook that Mario was acting crazy and whatnot.
But surprisingly I began talking to one of my ex-german exchange students named Matthias last night via Skype. We talked for about an hour on lots of different topics. we exchanged bands to listen to and movie sites
so that I could practice German and so he could listen to some cool Korean rap music. And that basically concluded my night last night.
