We got away early from Tina's guesthouse in Tiger leaping gorge and headed for Chateau Woody's guesthouse for brekkie. As it turned out it was only a couple of km away and all downhill. Had we known that the night before we would have made the push for it! What an idyllic location with the gorge below and snow-capped peaks on either side! Really nice patios-awesome place to read a book. They were so friendly too-we ended up staying there for a couple of hours and soaking it all in. It was cold but the skies were clear and the views amazing! So we finally left there quite late and decided that we'd only ride as far as Haba as we had a long, hard climb to get there(1000m). The road was excellent and the gorgeous views never-ending! Some hard climbing though as we were now getting into higher altitudes. We had a nice but cold downhill into Haba-the temps being regularly below zero at night now and not necessarily a lot warmer during the day! It gets a little tricky when riding because you get

hot on the uphills and then have put gloves/toque etc. back on for the downhills so there's a lot of on and off-lol! Anyway, even with gloves on our hands were absolutely frozen by the time we got to Haba and as the town is on a downhill we stopped at the first lodge we saw! It was a little log place on the right called Snow Mtn Inn or something which was close enough to the name of the one mentioned in the LP guidebook. Actually, it turned out to be a sort of tiny bar/restaurant where locals play cards or mahjong and eat/drink amd the next day we saw the one from the guidebook further down the road. The people were very friendly though and fed us a feast as well as rehydrating us with endless cups of tea! The owner was something of a mountaineer and showed us a video of an expedition to the top of local snow mountain(somewhere around 5300m I think) and some magazine articles and maps of the area. Eventually one of the girls showed me to the rooms which were down a dirt track a couple of hundred metres-basic sort of mountain

lodge dorms with lots of blankets and an outhouse-just fine for a couple of weary travellers!
