Travel in Tibet is challenging, in that once you get out of Lhasa you need permits galore to get almost anywhere... a nice way of forcing all the foreigners onto expensive land cruiser tours where the pain of getting permits is taken away... either that or you hitch and dodge the checkpoints, which isn't really my thing. A mandala on one of the walls of a chapel

The Tibetan mandala is a tool for guiding individuals along the path to enlightenment and generally depicted as a tightly balanced, geometric composition wherein deities reside. The principal deity is housed in the center. Monks meditate upon the mandala, imagining it as a three-dimensional palace.

... most of the scenery was very dry with little plant life.. this lush area ner a river was one of the exceptions.

These are the typical everyday outfits that we saw Tibetan women wearing.

This was as close as I got!

Everywhere people were making and baking bricks.

So worth getting up at 6am for.... sunrise on the road to Everest.
